Role PurposeTo provide accurate and comprehensive data analysis on the risk, performance and attribution of investment portfolios/funds, generating high-quality standardized and bespoke reporting for internal and external use. This role also acts as a key support function for CAIM and, in time, may expand to support other businesses.RequirementsQualification

  • Degree-level qualification (or equivalent), ideally in a quantitative, finance, economics, mathematics or computer science field.
Experience
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a relevant role, preferably within financial services or asset management.
  • Strong skills in Excel, VBA, and familiarity with coding practices
  • Proficiency in SQL and R (including the data.table package and Shiny). Python coders should demonstrate an ability to migrate to R quickly.
  • Experience with fixed income and investments is a plus, though not essential.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesData Analysis & Reporting
  • Produce and develop high-quality risk and performance reports and analyses for client presentations, investment proposals, and internal use, using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SQL and R.
  • Generate daily investment performance reports, alongside monthly and quarterly client reports, to support business needs.
  • Collate data from CAIM systems, validate accuracy, and upload to the CAIM database for use across the team.
  • Analyze portfolio and fund performance against relevant benchmarks, providing insights to internal stakeholders.
Regulatory & Compliance Reporting
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of regulatory reporting, ensuring adherence to compliance standards.
  • Encode, identify, and monitor investment guideline breaches, promptly raising issues with appropriate stakeholders.
Risk Monitoring & Mitigation
  • Monitor portfolio risks against established targets and discuss observations with the QRA team and Portfolio Managers, taking corrective actions as needed.
Collaboration & Team Support
  • Actively share responsibilities with the Quantitative Strategies, Risk, and Analytics team to ensure seamless execution of team objectives.
  • Maintain feedback loops with fund managers, especially within the SA Fixed Income team, to deliver data-driven insights and support decision-making.
Technical Migration & Automation
  • Migrate existing VBA processes to R, ensuring efficient and reliable solutions for data analysis and reporting.
Process Improvement & Strategy Support
  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance work processes and improve the quality of data, analyses, and reporting.
  • Contribute to the development of team strategies, ensuring alignment with CAIM's goals and the firms broader objectives.
CompetenciesTechnical ability
  • Extremely confident in MS Office, inc. VBA, and SQL.
  • Proficiency with R (particularly with the data.table package and Shiny). If a candidate is more skilled with another language (e.g. Python), they must demonstrate an ability to quickly evolve their skills into facility with R.
  • Familiarity with the Latex word processing package would be an advantage.
  • Familiar with financial statistics and risk management concepts such as tracking error, VaR and CVaR. Or a willingness to learn if coding ability is very strong.
  • Familiar with data architecture practices.
