MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE (MAF)DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTINGExciting teaching opportunities currently exist for an established subject specialist in Management Accounting and Finance (MAF)Rhodes University Rhodes University wishes to appoint a qualified person to join the vibrant MAF team in the Department of Accounting.The DepartmentThe Department of Accounting is one of the largest departments at Rhodes University, with twenty-two staff members and more than 800 students.The Department is accredited by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants for purposes of the qualifying examinations for admission as Chartered Accountants. Graduates of the Department have consistently achieved success in parts 1 and 2 of the qualifying examinations.In addition to the Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy (equivalent of the CTA), the department also offers a Postgraduate Diploma in Taxation. This program has become a popular choice among students who wish to follow a career as a tax specialist.The Department also offers post-graduate programmes to PhD level. The Masters's degree in Taxation is done by coursework and thesis on a part-time basis and is highly regarded by the profession.We have a number of Master and PhD graduates from our Taxation programme who won the prestigious Norton Rose Fulbright / SAIPA prize for the best master's or PhD degree thesis in South Africa.The Department contributes to research in the field of accountancy through regular conference presentations, contributions to textbooks and publications in journals.The lecturing staff are successful academics and professional accountants: most of the staff are qualified Chartered Accountants and many are recognised subject experts with impressive achievements in their names.Main ObjectivesAll academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level.In addition, a Professor and Associate Professor are to provide academic leadership in the following areas: teaching and learning; research and community engagement as well as to contribute towards the governance of the institution. This leadership contribution of the Professor should be evidenced at the departmental, Faculty and institutional levels.The Requirements
