Apply today!The Regional Hydrometallurgical Lead position, based in Johannesburg, South Africa, is part of the Hydrometallurgy Practice in the Metals Sector of Hatch. The Hydrometallurgy Practice is a global team of innovative and trusted professionals who provide process engineering input to the different sectors within a Consulting Engineering and EPCM Environment. This role leads an engineering team providing engineering services and field support while developing solutions in all hydromet related areas of process plants across various systems, unit operations and process equipment. This role will grow and drive forward business in the Hydrometallurgy Practice in the Africa, India and Middle East regions with a strong focus on battery metals and critical minerals. It requires the holder to be passionate about this field and to be a subject matter expert in one or more of the following commodities and a working understanding of several others: alumina, battery chemicals, copper, cobalt, nickel, lithium, rare earths, uranium, vanadium and precious metals. Demonstrated skills are needed in:Unit processes for leaching, solvent extraction, neutralization, crystallization, IX, dewatering, filtering, electrowinning, etc.Design, coordination and supervision of laboratory test work,Plant audits, surveys, sampling campaigns, and circuit optimization,Mathematical modelling and simulationsWriting technical reports and engineering documentationMentoring of more junior staffClient engagement and business growthHatch culture and approach to delivering projects Key Responsibilities Include:Supporting the development of new business including maintaining and nurturing existing client relationships.Leading or participating in the preparation of proposalsMentoring and developing staff with a focus on culture and technical progressPerforming process engineering tasks on Hydrometallurgical aspects of projects, in a variety of commodities, including;Acting as Lead Process Engineer on projects or studies.Undertaking trade off studies to resolve options.Actively engaging clients to understand project requirements.Developing process design, process design criteria, capacity analysis, process calculations, equipment sizing, process control logic.Developing Process Flow Diagrams, along with associated mass and energy balances.Input to Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams.Process review of equipment bids, proposals, and other initiativesLiaising with other discipline engineers to ensure designs conform to process requirements Qualifications and Experience:Process Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering degree.Extensive design experience, but also with commissioning and/or operational experience of hydrometallurgical processing equipmentExperience in scoping and management of metallurgical testwork programs (benchscale, pilot scale, on-site testing)Strong client and business development focus.Ability to lead processing engineering tasks on a project, within the allocated budget and schedule, including mentoring and guidance of junior colleaguesAbility to communicate effectively with both internal and external clients on a technical and interpersonal levelWhy join us?Work with great people to make a differenceCollaborate on exciting projects to develop innovative solutionsTop employerWhat we offer you?Flexible work environmentLong term career developmentThink globally, work locally Don't meet every single requirement?
