Job Description


National wholesaler based in Somerset West, has a vacancy for an outgoing, enthusiastic, motivated Regional Sales Manager with at least three - five years relevant experience to join their team.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a hands-on approach by being involved in growing profitable sales by visiting prospective and existing customers together with the sales agencies or sales representatives, identifying opportunities for growth and assisting in the preparation, proposal and closure of deals.
The successful candidate will be required to travel extensively and manage sales of the companys products by sales agencies and the companys own sales representatives in the assigned areas (Western Cape, Free State, Northern Cape and Lesoto Teams).
Requirements:

  • Experience in managing sales people selling to hardware and other DIY or specialised stores and also experience as a sales representative physically visiting these customers and growing profitable sales. Applicants without this experience will be not be considered
  • Minimum Grade 12 qualification
  • 3 - 5 Years experience as a Sales Manager for a wholesaler or manufacturer in the plumbing, sanitary ware or other hardware industries and also 3 - 5 years experience as a Sales Representative;
  • Experience in plumbing and sanitary ware products or irrigation and/or hardware products would be advantageous;
  • Valid drivers license and reliable own transport and willing to travel extensively to customers and sales agencies in the allocated regions on a daily basis;
  • Sound and proven track record of meeting sales targets and managing sales people to meet sales targets;
  • Numerical ability including calculation of profit, margins and selling prices;
  • Strong proven record of closing profitable sales deals;
  • Computer literate in Excel and PowerPoint
Duties will include but not limited to:
  • Active hands-on managing of the sales agencies and the companys own sales representatives in the designated areas to ensure that they meet and exceed sales targets by:
  • Actively targeting potential new customers;
  • Weekly cold calling and canvassing;
  • Actively looking for new sales opportunities;
  • Presenting and selling company products to customers close the deal;
  • Servicing of existing customers through visits and calls to ensure sales growth;
  • Keep in touch and follow up with existing and prospective customers to see if they have any additional needs or concerns;
  • Following up on deliveries to customers with the warehouse, transporter and the customers and establish if they were completely satisfied with the service and products, thereby ensuring that the sale was successfully completed. Give feedback to sales management in the event that customers were not completely satisfied in order for management to address the situation regarding products, dispatching or deliveries;
  • Preparing accurate quotations and supporting documentation and presenting proposals to existing and new customers;
  • Actively promoting and selling new product lines when they are launched and providing feedback to sales management regarding sales initiatives relating to the new product lines.
  • Be involved at detail level with the sales agencies and the sales representatives and go to the customers with them to assist them with the above tasks if required.
  • Develop a clear understanding of competitors, their priorities and their competitive strengths and give feedback to the Sales Director in this regard;
  • Control of expenses;
  • Assist customers with store layouts and merchandising;
  • Determine each customers needs by means of a full needs analysis and tailoring product / service to meet specific customer needs;
  • Complete all required office administration efficiently;
  • Submit required weekly and monthly feedback reports to the Sales Director;
  • Liaise with all necessary parties for example, finance, operations, internal sales, logistics etc. to ensure a smooth and successful service;
  • Actively take part in communication campaigns, marketing and advertising initiatives, and trade shows;
  • Evaluate success of marketing campaigns and promotions by customer and give feedback to the Sales Director;
  • Attend sales or other meetings and stock takes at the office, when required;
  • Prepare a sales budget for your designated areas;
  • Adhere to all company policies, sales order processing and relevant legislation

  • Ability to manage a team of people, driving strategies, setting targets and ensuring targets are met.
