If so, we invite you to explore the possibility of joining us to play your part in Desmond Tutu Health Foundations exciting future.The main purpose of this role will be to take responsibility on day-to-day nursing functions within a research-related environment, such as conducting study visits, study product / treatment administration with accompanying documentation of procedures, and comprehensive sexual and reproductive services.Minimum Requirements:

  • Nursing Degree or Diploma and Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Registered Nurse
  • At least 2-3 years of nursing experience
  • Training in contraception including Implant insertion and removal
  • Proficient in phlebotomy techniques
  • Knowledge of collection of various types of laboratory samples
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and sexual transmitted infections
  • Knowledge of study protocols and regulations
  • Computer literacy with sound knowledge of email, excel, word processing and internet
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication
  • Fluency in English and or isiXhosa and or Afrikaans
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions
  • Ability to work harmoniously with participants of diverse backgrounds
  • Must be able to work as a member of a team and independently
  • Client focused
  • Building collaborative and interpersonal relationships and partnership with local clinics, hospitals and community.
  • Must be detail orientated with good planning and organizing skills
  • Administrative and logistical skills

  • Willing to work on COVID-19 related studies when needed.

Advantageous:
  • Previous work experience in a research environment
  • Experience of working with adolescents
  • Training in First AID
  • GCP (Good Clinical Practice) certification
  • Human Subjects Protection (HSP) certification
  • Knowledge of quality control, systems, and processes (QA/QC)
  • Valid Drivers license and own transport
Responsibilities:
  • Providing a welcoming and supportive environment for all participants regardless of age, race, and gender in the research clinic
  • Conducting study visits including recruitment, enrolment and follow up visits
  • Conduct informed consent procedures
  • Working across various studies
  • Ensure that study participants move through all study procedures efficiently
  • Perform participant interviews and counselling according as per protocol requirements.
  • Perform clinical observations and study procedures as required by research protocols
  • Refer all study related queries to study coordinator or Investigators.
  • Providing pre- and post-test counselling, as well as risk reduction counselling
  • Ensure familiarity with local counselling testing and referral guidelines
  • Perform rapid HIV, STI and urine pregnancy testing
  • Provide Family Planning counselling & services including insertion and removal of Implanon
  • Provide education and service on sexual reproductive health HIV, TB and STI
  • Perform various point of care testing according to study protocols
  • Performing other participant care procedures as required by the study protocol
  • Perform phlebotomy procedures
  • Obtain and handle laboratory samples as per study protocol requirements
  • Correct labelling of laboratory samples and complete specimen-related study documentation
  • Maintaining strict participant confidentiality
  • Enter data onto case report forms, electronic data collection device or relevant IT program
  • Perform all activities according to Good Clinic Practice (GCP) and recognized ethical standards
  • Complete all protocol and sponsor required training
  • Assist with Quality Control (QC) checks
  • Ensure that clinical areas and equipment are maintained and in good working order.
  • Assist with monthly stock ordering
  • Manage medical waste monthly.
  • Monthly checking of emergency trolley and eyewash stations
  • Assist in adolescent clinic
