The primary focus of this role is on solar energy initiatives in both South African and international markets. The Project Engineer will be responsible for coordinating tasks, ensuring project success, and contributing to the advancement of sustainable energy solutions. This position requires a proactive individual with a strong understanding of the industry, exceptional project management skills, and a proven track record of successful project execution.The Project Engineer will provide technical expertise in deployment and implementation, translating the value proposition into practical applications. This role involves working on impactful projects that drive sustainability, including the design, construction, and installation of solar panels, as well as improving solar technology through data collection, lab work, and field experiments.Key Responsibilities * Plan, execute, and manage solar energy projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, quality standards, and budget constraints.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, contractors, and stakeholders, to align projects with industry regulations and strategic goals.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, site assessments, and technical evaluations to determine optimal design approaches for solar energy installations.
  • Perform site-specific engineering analyses and evaluate energy efficiency.
  • Develop plans for solar energy system design, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Conduct engineering site audits to collect structural, electrical, and related data for system design.
  • Create electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and connection diagrams using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD).
  • Review specifications and recommend engineering or manufacturing changes to optimize solar design.
  • Provide technical guidance on equipment selection and design optimization to enhance project performance.
  • Develop design specifications and functional requirements for solar energy systems and components.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Provide technical direction to installation teams during system setup, testing, commissioning, and performance monitoring.
  • Perform computer simulations to optimize solar PV system performance and energy production.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Create checklists for reviewing or inspecting completed solar installations.
  • Test and evaluate PV cells or modules for efficiency and reliability.
  • Conduct thermal, stress, or cost reduction analyses for solar systems.
  • Assist in the tendering process by providing technical expertise and guidance on solar energy systems.
  • Stay up to date with industry advancements and emerging technologies.
  • Support transmission and distribution network projects, including substations, transformers, lines, and grid-related infrastructure.
  • Assist with managing construction projects as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; additional certifications in Renewable Energy are advantageous.
  • A masters degree or certifications in electrical power generation, transmission, distribution, or renewable energy is a plus.
  • 7 to 10+ years of experience in electrical networks and feasibility studies, with exposure to solar system design.
  • Experience in energy yield assessments and financial modeling for solar and energy-related projects.
  • Strong knowledge of local and international energy codes and standards.
  • Expertise in solar energy system design, photovoltaic technology, and related design and analysis software.
  • Familiarity with permitting processes, utility interconnection requirements, and commissioning procedures.
  • Proficiency in electrical engineering software such as AutoCAD, PowerFactory, PSSE, or similar tools.
  • Experience using project management tools like MS Project.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of French is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.
