Laboratory Management - Organize materials , assist in data collection.
Prepare samples for the specified research analysis i.e., plant and soil samples or virus samples under supervision; media preparation; reporting and recording faults, mistakes, and problems, assist in general job flow in the section.
Field and glasshouse trials - Assist with field, lab and greenhouse trial activities under supervision, as follows:
Planting and trial maintenance.
Administration of insecticides.
Counting.
Trial marking within greenhouse and field trials.
Assist with trial inoculation activities under supervision.
Infestation of trials.
Assist with trial harvesting activities under supervision.
Assist with transport to and from trials under supervision.
Assist with data collection under supervision.
Viral diagnostics - Sampling of research material; assist with lab activities under supervision; media preparation; reporting and recording faults, mistakes, and problems; assist in general job flow in the section; attendance of weekly divisional meeting; timeous reporting on completion of tasks
A National diploma, B Tech, or BSc Degree in any scientist field such as Plant Pathology, Molecular Biology or related fields.
Good communication skills (written and Verbal)
Computer skills recommended for record keeping.
Ability to organize, priorities and work systematically.
Prior experience of laboratory, glasshouse and tunnel facilities and advantage.
Drivers license 08/EB driver.
