Research Associate / Johannesburg South Africa



###

Planning of laboratory trials in our pilot brewery and brewing lab based in Johannesburg/SA

Carry out the laboratory trials based on study plans

Secure all results, raw data, comments, and descriptions of deviations from SOPs are filled in ELN

Handle data and results from the laboratory trials, report results in agreement with the responsible ITS

Develop the ability of presenting the data, and /or communicate different topics at department meetings

Responsible for ordering, receiving, labelling and storage of samples, chemicals and laboratory supplies and equipment.

Working knowledge of basic analytical principals, calculations, and statistics.

Able to use relevant laboratory software.

Ability to perform basic troubleshooting techniques as outlined in SOPs.

Perform routine instrument maintenance and calibration as outlined SOP's.

Develop knowledge of industry specific products

Keep enough stock of consumables (glassware, chemicals, standards, substrates) and other laboratory supplies.

Participate in department meetings, projects, and team events within normal working hours.

Contribute in achieving goals and KPI's set by the reporting managers or team lead in technical service department.

In this role you'll make an impact by:

Conduct laboratory experiments following Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and maintain accurate records.


###

Perform HPLC analysis and other analytical techniques to support technical service activities.

###

Maintain compliance with safety, hygiene, and regulatory standards, including proper chemical handling and waste disposal.

###

Develop and deliver technical training for internal teams and external customers.

###

Troubleshoot and optimize enzyme applications through laboratory testing.

###

Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure compliance with safety protocols, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

###

Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate findings effectively.

###

Collaborate with commercial teams to provide lab-based technical support for enzyme applications in grain processing and biofuel industries.

To succeed you must hold:



###

BSc (Chemistry or a related field), an MSc will be advantageous

###

3-5 years of laboratory experience, preferably in brewing, or enzyme applications.

###

Hands-on experience with HPLC analysis and basic laboratory operations.

###

Strong understanding of GLP and laboratory safety practices.

###

Ability to troubleshoot analytical and process-related challenges effectively.

###

Excellent technical writing and communication skills.

###

Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also managing individual responsibilities effectively.

###

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for both research and lab operations.

###

Agile and adaptable to a fast-paced environment.

Potentially relevant experience:


1) B. Tech / M. Sc / M. Tech or Similar education and meet the current opening position requirements

2) Have a brew meister degree



###

2 )Customer oriented focus with good technical understanding



###

3 )Strong communication and networking skills



###

4 ) A proven record for high level impact within relevant industry technology or biotechnol ogy in general
