Job Description

AHRI seeks to appoint a research associate with any of the following backgrounds: geography, environmental epidemiology, physics, biostatistics, data or computer science or any other related quantitative field to join the Population Science department.The candidate should have experience of working with environmental data and possess the skills to link these to health data. The candidate will be in the Population Science Department at AHRI and will work within the climate and health programme under the guidance of the Principal Investigator. The incumbent will work closely with other quantitative scientists at AHRI and external collaborating institutions. The candidate will be supported to develop research that maximises the use of the large longitudinal data generated within the HDSS to address important questions of the impact of climate change on health. They will lead data analysis and contribute to the development of scientific manuscripts for publication. They will be expected to contribute to the development of junior staff members and the strategic progress of the climate and health programme at AHRI. This position is split between the Somkhele and Durban campuses of AHRI.Overview of duties

• Analysis of longitudinal and environmental data
• Work closely with data collection and data management teams.
• Present study findings at local and international meetings
• Development of scientific manuscripts for publication
• Supervise/co-supervise Masters, PhD
• Contribute to development of grant proposals
• PhD in a relevant field - Biostatistics, Physics, Geography, Data/Computer Science or a closely related quantitative field.
• Record of scholarly publication, including first-authored scientific journal articles.

Minimum experience * Experience of working with environmental data

• Skills to link environmental data to health outcome data for analysis.
