The MRC/Wits Rural Public Health and Health Transitions Research Unit (Agincourt) is an exceptional health and population research center in the Wits School of Public Health
The Unit supports a major research infrastructure underpinned by a health and socio-demographic surveillance system (HDSS), a form of longitudinal population registration, covering the Agincourt sub-district of rural Mpumalanga Province adjacent to Mozambique that has been in operation since 1992 coupled with observational and intervention studies along the life course
As part of their participation in the MADIVA Research Hub of the NIH's Data Science for Health Discovery and Innovation in Africa (DS-I Africa) Initiative, they are developing and implementing analytic and data visualization tools and solutions to support the management of multimorbidity (multiple co-occurring chronic diseases) in primary healthcare facilities in the Agincourt HDSS study area and decision making amongst health service leadership and clinic/hospital managers
There is an exciting opportunity for a Research Project Manager to operationally coordinate and oversee the implementation of the tools and solutions and evaluation of their impact
This position will be based in Mpumalanga at the Agincourt-Bushbuckridge Research Center of the Wits/MRC Rural Public Health and Health Transitions Research Unit of the School of Public Health, University of the Witwatersrand

Main purpose of the job:
To operationally coordinate and oversee the implementation of analytic and data visualization tools and solutions to support the management of multimorbidity (multiple co-occurring chronic diseases) in primary healthcare facilities and the evaluation of their impact
Location:
Wits/MRC Rural Public Health and Health Transitions Research Unit, Agincourt- Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga
Key performance areas:
Manage and coordinate the implementation of analytic and data visualization tools and solutions to support the management of multiple co-occurring chronic diseases in primary healthcare facilities and the evaluation of their impact
Train and supervise Research Assistants in clinics
Plan field logistics and monitor daily activities to meet targets and study objectives; working with a designated Data Specialist to ensure high data quality
Monitor the progress of research activities and generate regular and ad-hoc reports as required
Report regularly on study progress to study investigators
Maintain study site documentation following Good Clinical Practice
Assist with any outstanding ethics applications/amendments and respond appropriately to ethical and welfare issues concerning participants and staff
Contribute to peer-reviewed publications and technical reports, including as lead author
Required minimum education and training:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, Social Sciences or related field
Required minimum work experience:
Minimum of 2 years of health services research project management experience in a rural setting
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:
Valid South African Driver's license
Experience working within the public healthcare sector
Experience in coordinating and managing public health research projects
Able to work well in a team as well as independently
Able to work under pressure
Ability to explain technical information clearly to different audiences (e.g. study participants)
Excellent management and organizational skills
Meticulous attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
