Research Technician Position: Plant Pathology (three Years (3) Fixed Term Contract)

Job Description


  • Render support to research personnel to ensure successful completion of project.
  • Assist in training of extension officers, farmers and other stakeholders.
  • Assist in coordinating of work activities and supervises allocated resources, if applicable.
  • Adhere to financial administrative control.
  • Utilise and maintain facilities, material and equipment.
  • Collect, capture and process data with basis analysis.
  • Provide verbal and written reports on work activities and results.
  • Ensure dateline are met through effective distribution of tasks.
  • Comply with all occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation for presentations.
  • Assist in optimizing of equipment, processes, and systems.
  • Assist to publish semi-scientific and peer-reviewed reports/articles.
  • Minimum requirement Diploma/BSc/ BTech in Plant Pathology.
  • BSc Hons degree in Plant Pathology will be an added advantage and Plant Pathology must be one of the major subjects.
  • Previous experience on technology transfer to subsistence and small-scale farmers will be an advantage.
  • Previous experience with plant diseases, especially diseases on subtropical crops will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of integrated pest and disease management will be an advantage.
  • Previous experience in diagnostic services for diseases on Tropical and Subtropical crops will be an advantage.
  • Ability to do physical work outside in the field, glass house and laboratory.
  • Ability to liaise with researchers on project progress and participation pertaining to research activities.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Good communication skills verbal and written.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in the MS office suite.
  • Valid drivers license (code 08/EB) and experience in driving will be an added advantage.
