Job Description


Main purpose of the job:

  • To design and implement research projects and programme evaluations, conduct analysis of data, and publish scientific articles
  • Enhance routine programme data analytics to inform programme implementation
Location:
  • 7 Esselen Street, Hillbrow, Johannesburg
Key performance areas:
  • Write grant proposals
  • Conduct literature review to determine knowledge/research gaps and what research has been done
  • Develop research and programme evaluation protocols
  • Conduct programme evaluations
  • Obtain approval from relevant ethics and other regulatory bodies
  • Develop quantitative and qualitative research and programme evaluation tools such as questionnaires, surveys, and interview guides
  • Write, review and/or approve SOPs
  • Train the project team and other relevant staff
  • Supervise fieldwork (data collection, interviews, etc.)
  • Screen participants for study eligibility
  • Conduct informed consent process with participants
  • Extract data from participant medical records
  • Conduct data collection and data quality processes
  • Data management
  • Storage and archiving of data according to SOPs (electronic and hard copy data)
  • Adherence to study protocols, GCP, and local requirements for the ethical conduct of research in human participants
  • Support the team with any other research related activities
  • Complete meeting minutes and keep track of research-related activities
  • Monitor progress of research projects
  • Write ongoing progress reports as per project reporting requirements
  • Conduct data analysis according to agreed data analysis plan and write up results
  • Write or contribute to peer reviewed publications
  • Stay abreast with relevant research findings
  • Collaborate with other investigators on related studies and evaluations
  • Provide technical support to the Key Populations programme regarding data analysis
  • Conduct data analyses on the Key Populations routine programme data
  • Write or contribute to conference abstracts and presentations
  • Disseminate findings from research and routine programme data internally and externally including presentations at research days and conferences
  • Coach and train team members to ensure the acquisition of knowledge and skills required by the organisation
  • Contribute towards the development of knowledge within the team by identifying relevant training needs and topics
  • Develop relevant training material and presentations
  • Conduct ad hoc research training
  • Participate actively in journal clubs, workshops, and seminars as required
  • Promote harmony, teamwork and sharing of information
  • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrate effective self-management
  • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
  • Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
  • Take ownership for driving own career development in attending training and development sessions and relevant forums/meetings
  • Maintain and update knowledge of developments in field and expertise
Required minimum education and training:
  • Masters Degree in an appropriate discipline
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing research projects
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis software
  • Demonstrated publication record
  • Qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis software i.e. STATA or related packages
  • Experience working with REDCap
  • Experience working with qualitative software i.e. NVivo
Required minimum work experience:
  • Minimum 5 years research experience in a public health or research/surveillance field
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
  • Experience working with donor-funded programmes
  • Certification in good clinical practice
  • Experience working with TIER.Net
