RESEARCHER: VDD - ONDERSTEPORTFull job descriptionThe successful incumbent will be involved in research activities on vaccine and diagnostic development and will be required to carry out some of the duties in a biosafety level 3 (BSL3) laboratory and adhering to all rules and regulations thereof.Research work will focus on but is not limited to the development of improved vaccines and diagnostic assays.Responsible for management of projects: initiate, manage and contribute to national research projects.Management of human resources: identifies the need for human resources and manages the allocated resources.Manage project budgets: will be accountable for compiling and managing project budget.Develops business cases for all project expenditure requirements.Conducts research.Writes and submits research proposals, sources new national research opportunities.Plans and co-ordinates research activities within single or a multidisciplinary team.Supports senior research team in special research projects.Identifies and manages resource needs.Manages data capture, analysis, interpretations and recommendations.Compile detailed reports and seek approval for final reports.Publishes popular, semi-scientific and peer-reviewed papers (in journals with high impact factor),Attends scientific gatherings, be aware of intellectual property, disseminate research results by presenting oral and poster contributions and seek networking opportunities.Participates in the marketing and disseminating of information (seminars, workshops, courses, radio, TV etc).Builds and maintains relationships with national stakeholders and strategic partners to secure funds.Develops capacity at an appropriate level within or outside the realm of projects.Supervise or co-supervise students.Identifies and participates in own learning opportunities.Ensures compliance with SHE/OHS policies and procedures.Identifies risks and mitigation plans within the research focus area. PhD OR MSc plus a minimum of five (5) years working experience with extensive publications Veterinary Virology, Molecular Biology, Diagnostic Development Research, Life Sciences or related disciplines.Knowledge and experience in molecular and serological techniques is required.A track record of publications, supervising MSc and PhD students and obtaining research funding will be an added advantage.Knowledge in virology and immunology is important.Knowledge in developing improved diagnostic assays and vaccines through genetic engineering will be an added advantage.Enquiries: Dr. Lia Rotherham, Tel: (012) 529 9250CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: 06 SEPTEMBER 2024Competitive remuneration package will be congruent with the scope, responsibilities, and the stature of the position.
