Job SummaryMain purpose of the job:

  • To assist with identifying, analyzing, and documenting the impact of Wits VIDA Research Unit projects, and provide reporting assistance. Coordinate research and community activities to support the Impact, Communication and Engagement (ICE) team
Location:
  • Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Soweto - Johannesburg
Key performance areas:Impact Analysis, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL)
  • Develop models such as Theory of Change (Toc), MEAL frameworks and log frames
  • Keep track of data to evaluate the impact of initiatives and programs and provide written and oral reports to stakeholders
  • Develop and lead strategies to ensure a positive social impact of organizational activities
  • Researching and evaluating the social impact of organisational operations and investment
  • Designing and managing programs to ensure the organisation's commitment to social responsibility
  • Design, coordinate, and implement initiatives to gather, evaluate and apply data to help define strategy for, and illustrate impact of programs and services
  • In collaboration with impact and engagement project manager, design and implement social and community initiatives to measure their impact
  • Implement and operationalise solutions that are approved by VIDA senior management
  • Identify and gather up to date and accurate impact data by building and maintaining effective relationships with colleagues and other data sources
  • Record relevant qualitative and quantitative data relating to historical and current VIDA projects and develop relevant trend analysis
  • Record relevant qualitative and quantitative data relating to the performance of the unit
  • Develop Qualitative and Quantitative indicators, outcomes, and Impact statements
  • Collaborate with colleagues and other departments towards effective and efficient Impact reporting
  • Delivering MEAL related workshops and trainings for internal staff as required
  • Implementing and monitoring accountability initiatives including effective feedback mechanisms, and practices across the organisation
  • Generate SRoI reports and frameworks that will enable the organisation to measure and account for value generated from Interventions
Community Engagement
  • Build partnerships with existing, trusted community organizations and key stakeholders
  • Identify innovative solutions to address social and community issues affecting the organization
  • In collaboration with impact and engagement project manager, design and propose solutions that will provide VIDA with an expanded range of impact outputs
  • Liaise with other work streams to document community activities to keep track and record of the organizations impact
  • Inform senior staff of challenges impacting the progress of projects and make suggestions on how to resolve the issues
  • Identify social and community issues affecting the organization and identify innovative solutions to address them
  • Partake in community relations activities as directed by Management or as requested by stakeholders
  • Provide community members and the unit with updates on study implementation
  • Assist in planning and coordinating community events, including administration duties associated to CAB Activities i.e., Petty Cash requirements for participator transport reimbursement, providing refreshments
Research
  • Analyse and interpret data and translate into accessible reporting
  • Assist in undertaking analysis and interpretation of data to produce and present information, reports and presentations that clearly demonstrate VIDA impact
  • Contribute to and prepare publications
  • Compile relevant reports and research findings to address questions arising from meetings, management, or donors
  • Disseminate research results appropriately, including reporting and presenting to scientific audiences
  • Stay abreast of literature relevant to research activities within the organisation
  • Experience in primary research methods and fieldwork

  • Ensure all customer interaction (Both internal and external customers) is of the highest professional level, e.g. Respond on emails/queries within two days
  • Build and maintain authentic relationships with all stakeholders ensuring that all interactions are professional
  • Effectively manage work processes to maintain high levels of productivity
Required minimum education and training:
  • Master's Degree in Social Sciences
  • Courses in Monitoring and Evaluation, and Impact analysis will be an added advantage
Required minimum work experience:
  • 2-3 years' Impact Analysis work experience in a research environment
  • Experience in developing organizational level Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning systems and tools including Impact Analysis and good understanding of the seven principles that form the basis of Social Return on Investment (SRoI)
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
  • Data analysis, data management, analytical thinking, exceptional attention to detail, self-motivated; ability to work independently, solve problems and demonstrate collaboration as part of a multi-disciplinary team; excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills; experience in using multi-method study designs, grant proposal writing, ability to work under pressure
  • Writing and presentation skills critical
