The Role

We are currently seeking a talented Resident Engineer to join the Roads and Highways function group in South Africa based in SMEC George Offices.The purpose of this position is to develop, lead, operate, and grow the function group business within SMEC South Africa.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Acting as the Contract Administrator in the role of Resident Engineer.

Reviewing construction drawings and overseeing the resolution of Contractor queries by coordinating with designers through established communication channels.

Conducting inspections of the works and test results to ensure quality control.

Preparing and updating estimates to project completion.

Maintaining comprehensive records of site administration and communication in accordance with SMEC's quality management system and Construction Manual.

Attending technical and site meetings, taking minutes.

Compiling and maintaining monthly progress reports.

Engaging with clients and contractors.

Managing resources for site supervision.

Monitoring the quality of works.

Overseeing the project's schedule and contract budgets.

Addressing claims and preparing variation orders.

Closing out projects, including compiling completion/close-out reports.

Monitoring environmental and occupational health and safety aspects of the project.

Recommended Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

The Resident Engineer must possess at least a BTech in Civil Engineering and have 5-10 years of experience in construction projects, with a focus on reinforced concrete structures.

Experience in constructing reinforced concrete water retaining structures is advantageous.

Extensive familiarity with the use and interpretation of SAICE GCC 2015 and proficiency in managing contractual issues.

Professional Registration with ECSA is a plus.

Fluent in spoken and written English is essential.
