Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced hands-on Operations Manager to oversee the daily running of our retail store and restaurant in Franschhoek. This is a shop-floor leadership role, requiring someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, actively manages teams, and ensures smooth, efficient operations.

The ideal candidate will have strong hospitality and retail management experience, a passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences, and the ability to lead and develop high-performing teams. Proficiency in Google Drive is essential, while knowledge of Shopify and Lightspeed is highly beneficial.

This role is on-site, requiring daily interaction with customers and staff, ensuring that Lamu's ethos is brought to life through outstanding service and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:



Leadership & Team Management:

Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team across both the retail and restaurant sectors. Create a positive and supportive working environment where team members are empowered, held accountable, and continuously growing. Ensure that all team members are aligned with Lamu's values, providing exceptional service and upholding brand standards. Handle employee conflicts, provide effective feedback, and ensure that processes are adhered to, minimising unnecessary escalations to head office. Implement training and development programs to ensure service excellence.

Operational Excellence:

Oversee day-to-day shop and restaurant operations, ensuring efficient workflows, operational standards, and adherence to all company processes. Monitor and manage inventory, stock levels, and product quality to maintain high standards. Maintain an efficient workflow, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices. Ensure store and restaurant presentation aligns with brand standards.

Customer Experience & Sales Performance

Create a welcoming, engaging environment that enhances customer satisfaction. Address customer queries, complaints, and feedback professionally. Drive sales performance, ensuring retail and restaurant teams meet their KPIs. Collaborate on promotions and special events to increase foot traffic and revenue.

Financial & Compliance Management

Oversee daily sales tracking, cash handling, and cost control. Monitor profit margins, budget adherence, and revenue targets. Ensure compliance with health, safety, liquor licensing (WCLA), and labor laws.

Qualifications & Experience



5+ years of managerial experience in hospitality. Hands-on leadership style with a strong presence on the shop floor Experience managing both front-of-house and back-of-house teams. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think on your feet. Tech-savvy: Proficiency in Google Drive, Excel, and digital management tools. Knowledge of Shopify and Lightspeed POS (preferred but not required). Ability to handle customer interactions, complaints, and escalations effectively. Strong financial acumen - experience with budgeting, stock control, and performance tracking. Deep understanding of hospitality service standards and customer experience best practices.
