Our client in the Petrochemical industry that is based in Mpumalanga is looking for a Site Safety Officer who has at least 5 years of experience in the Oil and Gas, Petrochemical, or similar sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:Provide the leadership and support necessary to contribute towards efficient Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security (HSSE) management.
Ensure that the company and client is safe working procedures and safe working practices are fully understood and that such procedures and practices are being effectively applied.
Provide HSSE training to the site personnel in line with the HSSE induction booklet.
Ensure that the Resident Site Manager is kept up to date on HSSE performance and assist him in HSSE reviews.
That statutory appointments have been completed and all statutory requirements are met.
That where required, health and safety committees are established, that meetings are accordingly held and that the minutes of such meetings are kept and properly filed.
Review safe working method statements and risk assessments produced by the construction contractors.
Immediately stop any unsafe work practices, which are likely to cause accidents or are injurious to health or are non-compliant with national regulations and bring the occurrence to the attention of the appropriate discipline supervisor.
Establish emergency procedures and evacuation plans and ensure all personnel are aware of the procedures, plans, and emergency assembly points.
Conduct site HSSE induction courses for all site personnel based on the company standard.
Arrange and act as secretary to the site safety committee meetings.
Conduct training sessions and hold discussions with the field supervision on safety matters such as safety performance, legislation, permits to work.
Ensure all site HSSE equipment is available, in good condition and in sufficient quantities for the labour force.
Advise the field supervision on matters relating to HSSE and participate in 'toolbox' talks with the site labour.
Ensure that the construction contractors properly control waste management about hazardous waste disposal.
Produce an end of project file consisting of client and legal requirements, including an end of project report, which details accidents, statistics, and a brief overview of any HSSE arrangements that are a client requirement.
Ensure that Behavioural based safety training is completed by all and carried out daily (HEART Training).Health and Safety QualificationMust have at least a minimum of 8 years Construction/Occupational safety experience.Must have a NEBOSH General International CertificateMust have experience with SAMTRAC/Mining SAMTRAC, HIRA, ASHEPPFirst Aid level 1 Certificate.Must have been exposed to the level of a managing contractor.Registered CHSO with SACPCMP.Must be Medically Fit.
