In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.Guided by our purpose and our values, we enable both high performance and purposeful action as we aim to re-imagine mining to improve people's lives", delivering the metals and minerals that make modern life possible.As Section Manager Contractor Management you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Encourage and enforce a safety-first workplace culture by leading by example, promoting accountability amongst team members, and embedding critical controls into daily work practices.
  • Advise contractors and SMMEs on Kumba's pre-qualification requirements, focusing on safety, health, and environment (SHE) criteria.
  • Design and implement targeted interventions for SMMEs based on pre-qualification results.
  • Oversee smooth contract transitions from the Supply Chain to end-users and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with the CPM strategy.
  • Develop and manage plans to implement the site CPM strategy, including critical tasks, performance targets, plans, and budgets, focusing on contractor safety and delivery schedules.
  • Regularly audit existing contracts to ensure compliance with Kumba's standards and SLAs established with stakeholders.
  • Champion adopting and effectively using systems such as Passport 360, monitoring compliance and efficiency.
  • Provide detailed compliance reports to site management, ensuring visibility into contractor performance and adherence to the CPM dashboard.
  • Refine the contractor feedback system to ensure timely responses to suggestions and complaints.
  • Report monthly on contractor performance related to SHE, overtime, project delivery, and adherence to CPM targets.
  • Lead contractor forums to improve communication and transparency with the contractor community.
  • Identify and assess sustainability opportunities and risks related to contractor management
  • Conduct compliance audits, monitor non-compliance, and manage incident investigations related to contractor activities.
  • Identify CPM process gaps and non-compliances, ensuring appropriate actions are implemented to improve performance and close out gaps promptly.
  • Facilitate regular stakeholder engagements and monitor processes associated with the contracts to ensure continuous improvement of the CPM process.
This role is in Contractor Performance Management (CPM) at a Band 6 level reporting to the Manager Contractor PerformanceQualifications
  • Grade 12
  • B Degree in Supply Chain / Commodity Management (NQF7)
  • SA Drivers Licence
Experience
  • A minimum of 6-8 years of experience managing supply/commodity in a mining contractor management environment.
  • Understanding key value drivers across the site value chain and the interdependence of critical levers.
  • Familiarity with the principles and elements of the Operating Model, mainly focusing on Work Management and its implications for the discipline.
  • Knowledge of project management fundamentals.
  • Awareness of new technologies and their impact on operational activities within the scope of the role.
  • Proficiency in business improvement tools and techniques.
  • Understanding commercial/business drivers in the discipline and their impact on business performance.
  • Familiarity with basic financial metrics and budgeting tools.
  • Proficiency in leadership tools for creating a purpose-led high-performance and change culture.
  • Understanding of AA Organisation Model concepts and principles.
  • Knowledge of safety, health, environment, legislative, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
