Kumba Iron Ore



We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects - exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.





-Safety, Health, and Environment

Select and allocate resources to ensure that work can be conducted safely. Oversee 'working elements' (inspections, audits, PTOs, etc.) of the Safety Management System and comply as appropriate. Ensure that critical controls in your area are functioning. Implement and maintain compliance with Group and Site safety, health and environment standards. Ensure prompt investigation of all injuries, illnesses, and incidents. Ensure that subordinates are competent in the safe facilitation of their tasks. Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions

Performance and Delivery



Technical Directive:



Implement the equipment maintenance strategy to align with the production profile. Enhance engineering discipline by providing quality work and feedback to the maintenance management system. Mitigate production risks by managing them proactively. Ensure quality control/ assurance during routine test work and contractor management.

Equipment Reliability and Maintenance:



Collaborate with the maintenance team to plan and schedule maintenance activities, ensuring optimal resource use and adherence to maintenance strategies. Implement and oversee systems for monitoring and analysing asset performance, utilising data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement. Lead root cause analysis investigations for equipment failures, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurring issues and improve overall reliability. Implement predictive maintenance techniques, such as condition monitoring and predictive analytics, to identify potential equipment failures before they occur. Collaborate with other departments, including operations and engineering, to align reliability initiatives with overall business objectives and strategies. Identify and proactively manage risks associated with equipment reliability, implementing risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards and industry best practices related to equipment reliability and maintenance. Provide regular reports to the Manager of Engineering & Maintenance on equipment performance, reliability metrics, and the effectiveness of maintenance strategies. Develop and maintain emergency plans for equipment failures or critical events, ensuring rapid and effective responses to minimise downtime. Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to ensure the availability of quality spare parts, support services, and technology upgrades for equipment reliability.

People and Teams:



Communicate effectively and set clear expectations and goals. Monitor performance and provide training and development. Manage staffing, promote top talent, and fill skill gaps as needed. Enforce conduct standards and discipline where necessary. Share information, introduce changes, and measure team performance. Develop role requirements and ensure workplace discipline.

Budget and Cost Control Management



Ensure area budget compliance and approve cost impacts. Identify and execute cost-saving opportunities. Manage expenditure authorisations and reforecast budgets as required.

Qualifications

-Relevant Degree in Engineering (Relevant to Reliability Engineering and Asset Management (NQF8) - advantageous. SA Driver's Licence (Code B).

Technical Knowledge



6-8 years' experience in mechanical maintenance, reliability, and diagnostics (2 years in management). Proficient in reliability practices, maintenance planning, and diagnostics. Strong understanding of operational value chains and work management. Knowledge of project management, emerging technologies, and business improvement tools. Financial acumen with budgeting and forecasting knowledge. Skilled in risk management and application of critical controls. Familiar with SHE standards and legal requirements.
