Provide expert guidance to create an understanding of and application of the Anglo Safety System and Standards by focusing on addressing areas of risk identified through safety performance indicators and risk identification methodology and evaluating the effectiveness of the Safety Management System.Your duties will include:

  • Support the development of Safety & Health principles and culture development.
  • Take personal responsibility for the safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and eliminate fatalities.
  • Act as a role model and reinforce a workplace culture where safety and health for the site are paramount.
  • Facilitate an environment within the team to challenge and act on unsafe behaviours without repercussions.
  • Ensure team members in the area of accountability embed critical controls into daily work practices.
  • Assess the safety leadership capabilities of direct reports and support development where needed.
  • Assess and ensure the effectiveness of Safety & Health systems in the contractor management discipline.
  • Assess the safety leadership capabilities of direct reports and the capability potential of the broader contractor management team.
  • Assess team compliance with safety requirements per the Operating Model workflow.
  • Conduct physical safety checks, interventions, and coaching.
  • Refine and implement KPIs and analyse available data for areas of accountability.
  • Address all deficiencies by developing improvement plans for areas of accountability.
  • Conduct continual internal safety audits to meet all safety requirements.
  • Coordinate site visits within the area of accountability of internal and external visitors to ensure adherence to site safety systems (including induction).
  • Facilitate implementation of Contractor Performance Management.
  • Support suppliers with technical enablement training and coaching.
  • Develop appropriate standards, processes, and management systems to manage risks effectively.
  • Advise managers on safety issues and risk management by providing expert guidance.
  • Initiate preventative measures to address safety trends by analysing them carefully.
  • Apply relevant safety-related legislation, regulations, and standards by interpreting and implementing them.
  • Monitor the safety system's effectiveness by regularly reviewing its performance.
  • Address all safety risks across all functions adequately by working collaboratively with discipline heads and other stakeholders.
  • Audit whether the safety management system is functioning as intended by inspecting and examining it thoroughly.
  • Maintain and update Sishen's contractor management system to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.
  • Support a purpose-led, high-performing culture within the section that aligns with company values of inclusivity and diversity.
  • Act as a role model and actively engage as a team member in all team processes.
  • Implement effective team leader and team member processes in accountability.
  • Set clear and consistent expectations, encourage teams to challenge the status quo and strive for improvements.
  • Support the specific systems, symbols, and behaviours that reinforce the desired culture and align with Anglo-American values.
  • Communicate the operation's goals and direction, making it digestible for team members.
  • Support employee and contractor management processes.
  • Ensure team members have the authority and resources (time, people, and budget) to perform their tasks in line with the nature/complexity of work and industry benchmarks on efficiency.
  • Hold individuals within the area of accountability to account in line with their role authority and accountability structures.
  • Support people development within the area of accountability.
  • Assess if all members within contractor management have the knowledge and skills to perform their roles and escalate.
  • Identify knowledge and skill gaps and provide development activities and coaching.
  • Embed team member processes through the Team + tool, ensuring performance requirements and achievements are known.
  • Engage in local dispute resolution with employee representative bodies as relevant to discipline and escalate as required.
QualificationsQualifications
  • Relevant B-degree in Safety Management or equivalent (NQF7)
  • Relevant 4-year or Honors degree in Safety Management or Relevant B. Tech - Advantageous
  • Valid SA Drivers License
  • Competency requirements as per the Mine, Health, and Safety Act (where applicable)
  • OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 audit training certificate

  • Key value drivers across the site value chain and interdependence of key levers.
  • Principles and elements of the Operating Model focus on Work Management and its implications for the discipline.
  • Project management fundamentals.
  • Innovative technologies and their impact on operational activities within the scope of the role.
  • Business improvement tools and techniques.
  • Commercial/business drivers in discipline and business performance.
  • Basic financial metrics & budgeting tools.
  • Leadership tools for creating a culture of purpose-led high performance and change.
  • AA Organisation Model concepts and principles.
  • Safety, health and environment, legislative, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
