As a Security Engineer professional you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining systems and protocols to protect an organizationxe2x80x99s data, networks, and systems from security threats. You will play a critical role in identifying vulnerabilities, mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance with security standards and regulations.You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify vulnerabilities, create robust defences, and drive a culture of security awareness.   • Design, implement, and maintain security measures to protect organizational systems, networks, and data.
  • Conduct regular security assessments, including vulnerability scans and penetration testing, to identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor systems and networks for unusual activity, investigate security incidents, and respond to breaches.
  • Develop and enforce security policies, procedures, and standards across the organization.
  • Implement and manage security tools, such as firewalls, antivirus software, SIEM systems, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Collaborate with IT, software development, and other teams to integrate security best practices into workflows and systems.
  • Stay updated on the latest security threats, trends, and technologies to proactively address potential vulnerabilities.
  • Prepare and deliver reports on security incidents, compliance, and risk management to leadership.
Job Experience & Skills Required:
Qualifications:
  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Bachelorxe2x80x99s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field
  • Honourxe2x80x99s degree in relevant field will be advantageous.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, CompTIA Security+, or similar are highly desirable.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a cybersecurity or related role.
  • Hands-on experience with security technologies such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and endpoint protection.
  • Proven track record of managing and responding to security incidents and conducting risk assessments.
  • Experience with cloud security (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and securing hybrid environments is a plus.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, PCI DSS).
Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux) and networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN).
  • Ability to analyse complex security issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Clear and concise communication skills to explain security concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Meticulous in identifying vulnerabilities and ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work across departments.
  • Ability to stay updated on evolving security threats and technologies.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell is a plus.
