The South African Cane Growers' Association is recruiting for a permanent vacancy for a Senior Agricultural Advisor North Coast, based in Umhlali.The South African Cane Growers' Association is a registered non-profit company which protects the interests of its members by lobbying for an appropriate legislative environment, negotiating the best price, undertaking research and analysis, and providing growers with critical information empowering them to make sound decisions at farm, mill and industry level.If our company aligns with you, and if you are interested in joining our professional team of Agricultural Economists, then this could be the job for you!Our position is based in Umhlali on the North Coast and involves travel along the North Coast and Inland areasDuties and Responsibilities:

• The successful incumbent will be required to provide advice and guidance on technical and industrial information, conduct relevant economic research and analysis, prepare appropriate business plans for growers, and produce written and verbal reports for the local grower meetings and Mill Group Board.
• The position has a strong numerical component, as preparation of viability studies, compiling budgets and cashflows of farm businesses, assessing expropriation claims and compensation claims for individual growers, contractor bodies and grower empowerment projects, are just some of the exciting key performance areas
• This position will identify issues that impact on farming operations and where possible identify sustainable solutions and assist growers in the journey of producing sugarcane in a profitable, sustainable, and environmentally responsible way
• We are looking for a candidate who is a natural collaborator, who will build strong partnerships and establish good working relationships, and who faces issues directly and confidently
• This position will also be responsible for advising on governance, not only on the local grower structures, but also within the community and ensure that the local structures are properly constituted, functioning and operational

Minimum Requirements:Education and Experience:

• An Agricultural Economics Degree
• Fluent in Zulu
• Strong results for Matric/ Grade 12 Level Core Mathematics are essential
• Two to three years' experience compiling, implementing and evaluation of business plans
• Two to three years in the Agricultural Sector

Knowledge and Skills:

• Solid conflict management experience and skills
• Self-driven, problem solver with the ability to oversee various projects simultaneously
• Excellent people skills and ability to establish new relationships and connections
• Ethically minded and values driven individual who subscribes to the values of SA Canegrowers to be accountable, ethical, courageous, and professional and who works effectively in a team environment as well as working independently to set own direction
• A valid driver's license
• Excellent numerical competence and skilled in Excel and Word
