SUMMARY:
-POSITION INFO:Minimum Requirements:

• LLB degree or equivalent
• Minimum 6 years' PQE post articles experience in Banking / Finance Law required.
• Projects finance and structured trade finance transactions experience is an added advantage
• A commitment to technical excellence
• Proven track record on commercial finance and banking transactions

As a Senior Associate in banking and finance you have:

• Legal Expertise:

• In-depth knowledge of the law in their specific practice area (e.g., various types of finance (leveraged finance, project finance, asset backed finance), restructuring and insolvency, competency in PFMA, MFMA, PPPs, etc.).
• Strong research and analytical skills to interpret legal concepts and apply laws to various situations.

• Experience:

• Several years of experience as an associate lawyer in a transactional team.
• Proven track record in handling complex financing matters (cross-border transactional experience would be helpful).

• Client Management:

• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, team members and other workstreams.
• Excellent communication skills to convey complex legal concepts clearly and simply.

• Leadership and Supervision:

• Capability to lead and mentor junior associates and legal staff in a busy transactional practice.
• Experience in managing matters from inception to financial close, including coordinating work (especially with counsels in various jurisdictions or projects with various workstreams) and overseeing project timelines.

• Negotiation Skills:

• Proficiency in negotiating and finalising agreements effectively on behalf of clients.

• Attention to Detail:

• Strong ability to spot details and discrepancies that can impact legal outcomes.

• Time Management:

• Effective prioritization of tasks and management of multiple matters simultaneously to meet deadlines.

• Business Acumen:

• Understanding of the business environment and how documents need to align with client strategies and business goals.

• Professional Ethics:

• A strong commitment to ethical practice and professional conduct in all legal dealings.

• Adaptability and Problem Solving:

• Ability to adapt to changing environments, laws, regulations, and client needs while developing innovative legal solutions.
