Senior Data Enbgineer required in Sandton for a contract. This role is pivotal in driving our data strategy and ensuring the efficient and effective management of our data infrastructure. We are looking for a proactive, innovative, and solution-oriented individual who can leverage their expertise to deliver exceptional data solutions and contribute to the success of our business.RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, develop, and maintain complex data warehouse components, particularly on Teradata (3NF).
• Architect and implement robust data solutions to support critical business intelligence and analytical needs.
• Optimise data warehouse performance and ensure data integrity.
• Develop and manage data APIs to facilitate seamless data integration across various systems.
• Implement and enforce data governance policies, including documenting data definitions and business glossaries.
• Ensure data models are approved and aligned with business requirements.
• Develop and present data visualisations and dashboards using Power BI to provide actionable insights.
• Translate complex data into clear, concise, and impactful visual representations.
• Code, compile, test, and implement applications in compliance with the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Optimise SQL queries, particularly on MSSQL and Oracle, to enhance data retrieval and system performance.
• Minimise system downtime through proactive issue identification and resolution.
• Cultivate and manage strong working relationships with stakeholders, including end-users, SMEs, project managers, and senior staff.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers.
• Proactively engage with business units to understand needs and identify innovative IT solutions.
• Assess, identify, and mitigate potential risks within the IT programming environment.
• Ensure compliance with legislative and audit requirements during programming execution.
• Familiarity with workflow tools like TIBCO AMX / Camundo an advantage.
• Monitor systems post-change and perform performance analysis to ensure optimal system capacity.
• Maintain maximum system availability by conducting thorough root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures.
• Manage personal development to enhance technical and business skills.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experienced Data Engineer of 8+ years with a strong focus on data warehousing.
• Financial services/banking sector.
• Extensive data warehousing experience (concepts & implementation)
• Advanced SQL (MSSQL & Oracle)
• Power BI proficiency
• Experience with Teradata, Hive, and Data APIs
• Advantageous: TIBCO AMX/Camunda and Ab Initio experience
• Strong back-end/front-end development skills
• System design experience
