In addition to routine planning work, you will have the opportunity to participate in business development for clinical services in Africa. With the support of the AOS team, you will assist customers with documentation and planning protocols and help commission and validate new treatment techniques as necessary.This role will primarily be home-based; you will need to maintain regular communication with the customer/ local clinical team and partake in daily team meetings and workload assignment meetings as necessary. You will typically support one or more clinical partners, working collaboratively with the local radiation oncology team to produce high quality treatment plans on a pre-agreed timeline, while ensuring that the highest standards of quality and safety are maintained in accordance with the local departments protocols and procedures for radiation oncology treatment planning.As a senior dosimetrist, you will work closely with the customer on-site dosimetry team and the local Varian business unit to support sales service opportunities and new projects.Your tasks and responsibilities:xc2xb7 You will be responsible for ensuring delivery of high-quality treatment plans in a timely manner and building strong relationships with key leaders at the customer sites to ensure the success of the service.xc2xb7 You will adhere to clinical service standards at partner site: Ensuring that treatment plans are optimised appropriately to deliver the prescribed dose safely while sparing critical structures in accordance with protocols and Radiation Oncologist's requirements.xc2xb7 Have the prerequisite knowledge of human anatomy to identify and correct organ contours (OARs) using conventional treatment planning imaging datasets (e.g. CT, MRI, PET-CT).xc2xb7 Have the prerequisite knowledge of physiology, principals of clinical oncology and radiobiology, radiotherapy physics, and radiation safety to fulfill the role.xc2xb7 Where applicable, ensure full compliance with national regulations relating to the optimisation of radiotherapy treatments. Support the implementation of local patient safety standards and practices as required.xc2xb7 Automation: Advocate and help drive the introduction of automation in all areas of the treatment planning pathway, e.g., auto-contouring, plan optimization, plan checking, etc.xc2xb7 Where the AOS service is responsible - ensure that treatment plan setup instructions and all other relevant information is clearly documented in the R&V or EMR system or other location. Confirm that the instructions have been clearly communicated to the treatment team (e.g., correct use of immobilisation devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment or imaging parameters).xc2xb7 Create and transfer reference images and quality assurance plans for pre-treatment verification imaging and QA measurements as per local practice (e.g., DRRs, CBCTs and other IGRT and SGRT data) as specified by the partner/customer site.xc2xb7 Where applicable support knowledge transfer to help develop capability within the local clinical teams: Facilitate collaboration and knowledge transfer/training to implement new technology from initial introduction through to clinical operation.xc2xb7 Travel may be required to support business and service development and attend Varian team meetings and new customer sites.xc2xb7 Support the local AOS Professional Services team in scoping new service project and opportunities to grow the services business in the regionYour qualifications and experience:xc2xb7 Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an independent Therapy Radiographer. A relevant higher diploma or degree in Therapeutic Radiography at NQF7 or equivalent. At least 5 years experience in treatment planning/dosimetry and competence in all areas of treatment planning - including 3D, VMAT, SABR, DIBH planning techniques.xc2xb7 As a senior dosimetrist you must be keen to implement change, be prepared to work flexibly to meet the demands of the service and support the clinical service.
