Job Description


The Senior Finance Manager will continue the development of the highly capable and motivated team responsible for the maintenance of accurate financial records, monthly reporting across the organisationPOSITION INFO:Responsibilities:AFSLead on complying with all statutory, tax and financial requirements. This will involve leading on the preparation of the annual Audit File (including preparation of the schedules to support the notes to the accounts) and working with external auditor to successfully deliver financial statements to the Annual General Meeting.

  • Oversee the finance team in their work with external auditors .
  • With the Chief Executive Officer, evaluation and learning, review the findings of each audit, learn from them and share with others across the institute.
  • Support the audit process and report to the relevant board and its committees.
Financial Management, Forecasting, and Reporting
  • Participate in monthly finance meetings with department leads and executive teams monitoring cashflow, income and expenditure and be responsible for meeting reporting timescales and requirements.
  • Lead on producing timely and accurate reports for the Executive Management Team (monthly).
  • Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with the overall business objectives.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial analysis, forecasts, and reports to support decision-making.
  • Monitor financial performance, identify areas of improvement, and implement corrective actions.
  • Report to the
, Board and its relevant committees on the financial affairs of the institute.Budgeting and Cost Management
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
  • Monitor and control costs, ensuring efficient resource allocation and expense management initiatives while maintaining quality.
  • Oversight of all taxation matters such as VAT, payroll tax, etc
  • Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyse internal operations, identify areas of cost reduction and process enhancement.
Financial Strategy and Planning
  • Develop and implement the organization''s financial strategy and long-term
. * Provide financial insights and guidance to the executive team and the board of directors.
  • Assess the financial health of the organization and recommend actions for improvement.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies to support the organisations objectives.
  • Perform risk management through analysis of company liabilities and investment and evaluate and manage capital structure and funding initiatives.
Financial Reporting and Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations, laws, and accounting standards.
  • Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate audits and ensure adherence to controls.
  • Maintain a strong control environment with good governance and adherence to the institutes policies.
  • Ensure service level agreements are adhered to for outsourced processes to service providers.
Team Management ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the line management and professional development of direct reports, holding regular meetings undertaking quarterly and annual appraisal
  • Support and encourage staff in the Finance Team to build their skills and knowledge.
  • Any other adhoc assignment(s) as may be required
Requirements
  • BCom Honours + CIMA qualification or SAICA or equivalent
  • CA (SA) (preferred)
  • 5 plus years experience in a senior management position, preferably in an NPO / professional body organisation
  • At least 6 years post-articles proven experience in Reporting/ Management accounting
  • Advanced Excel skills. (preferred)
  • Good knowledge of financial systems environment and understanding of the interaction between different modules and functional areas
  • Experience with and/or reporting to the board
  • Sound knowledge of Tax and Companies Act
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good experience in managing a finance team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong financial, numeracy and Excel skills including accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to operate complex financial systems.
  • Strong organisational skills including planning, developing, implementing and maintaining financial administrative systems.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage demanding priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English including the ability to explain financial information to non-finance staff.
  • Self-confident and with excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work individually as well as in a team, sometimes under considerable pressure.
  • Ability to determine own priorities and appropriately respond to changing priorities.
  • How to handle sensitive and confidential issues.
  • Ability to analyse data and communicate complex issues in a clear and engaging manner to a range of audiences providing clear recommendations for decisions.
  • Able to inspire, educate, motivate and influence others.
