Senior Ground Water Numerical Modeller

Job Description

We are looking for a passionate individual who can design and interpret numerical models using various modelling techniques.


Interpreting technical data and information from maps and historical documents to build a conceptual model of groundwater flow and quality. Designing and completing a groundwater supply, groundwater monitoring, groundwater impact assessment or groundwater quality assessment (which may include environmental measurement and sampling or an ongoing monitoring regime) in order to confirm or develop the model. Using modelling techniques to enable predictions to be made about future trends and impacts on groundwater flow and quality. Project and team management, where required. Compiling reports, undertaking administrative duties and acting on environmental and water issues for the client. Representing the client in environmental and related issues at a local level. Collecting hydrogeological data relating to mine dewatering and water monitoring. Undertaking field excursions in order to complete the above; locally and international. Integrating your activities with a team of specialists both technically and socially. Provide support and mentorship to junior staff Providing specialist input into Environmental Impact Assessments and Water Use License's. Working in close collaboration with specialists from other disciplines.

Qualifications



Minimum BSc (Hons) Hydrogeology, BSc Degree to include Geology as a major subject (a Chemistry or Mathematics major would be an added advantage). Professional Registration.

Work Experience



At least 10 years working experience in groundwater numerical modelling. A valid driver's license.

Skills and Knowledge



Time and budget management. Project management implementation. Communication (written and oral). Self-motivated. Understanding of conceptual hydrogeological models. Understanding of groundwater numerical flow and contaminant transport models (MODFLOW, MT3D, FeFLOW, etc.). Planning geophysical surveys and interpretation of data (magnetics, electromagnetics, resistivity, gravity etc.). Design and construction of production boreholes and monitoring wells in varied geological environments. Data analysis and interpretation of hydrogeochemical data. Planning and execution of hydraulic tests and interpretation of data. Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team. Must be willing to travel throughout Africa and elsewhere, as the need arises. * Must be able to sell and market their services.
