Accountable as part of the Inspection Authority to ensure code compliance to the reverent Health and Safety Standard or supporting SP code requirements in order to support the safe continued operation of pressure vessels, steam generators, storage tanks and piping inspection so that frequencies can be maintained by the Secunda Synfuels Inspection Authority for periods in excess of 36 months.A QA function is also conducted on new manufacture, repair and modification on activities at external manufacturer's workshops both nationally and internationally.In summary, the role is accountable to ensure compliance to the Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER), SANS 10227, SANS 17020 and various approved Health and Safety Standards during all repairs, modification or manufacture as a certified manufacturing Inspector (IPE) and SANAS technical signatory.Recruitment DescriptionAccountable for manufacturing or repair inspections of all pressure vessels, steam generators, storage tanks and piping in order to comply with regulatory requirements and to ensure equipment integrity, availability and safety for the units allocated as per the legal appointments.Training of Trainee Inspectors - competency development to achieve SAQCC (for Department of Labour) accredited Inspectors of Pressurised equipment (IPE) certification.Inspection responsibilitiesUtilisation of specialised inspection equipment to be used during the inspections.Recommend specific repair actions or alternative recommendations arising from inspections using specialised knowledge.Ensure that shutdown programs are fit for purpose with regards to inspection activities.Basic knowledge of manufacturing and repair codes and.Support inspector on the basis of knowledge transfer and continuous training.Witness welder qualifications & procedure qualificationsReview technical specifications for:

IPE 18 tasks as per SANS 10227Document all manufacturing or repair hold pointMonitor welding/fabrication activities to ensure that repairs, manufacturing and modifications are performed by competent personnel in accordance with the Manufacturer's Fabrication and Test plans and Inspection Quality Management system.Design and drawing verification.Verify that an agreed FTP is implemented.Correlate materials and material certification.Identify material and transfer identification.Examine material cut edges and heat affected zones.Review welding procedure specifications.Review welder/operator qualifications.Examine fit-up and weld operations.Inspect second side weld preparation.Accept non-destructive testing.Witness and evaluate mechanical testing.Examine and verify heat treatment records.Witness pressure tests.Perform final visual examination.Verification of as built dimensional tests.Verification of nameplate details.Verification of the compilation of the data book/addendum.Countersigning of certificates of manufacture, compliance, repair or modification.3.1 and 3.2 certifications.Formal EducationGrade 12 with English, Mathematics & Science ANDCertified Inspector of Pressurised Equipment (IPE) metallic (must) and non-metallics (preferably) ANDRelevant SAIW courses as per the training matrix captured in the Inspection Authority Quality Management System-MT, PT Level 1 & 2-UT Level 1-Welding Inspector 1-Welding Inspector 2-ASME Codes-RT InterpretersRelated Experience2- 4 Years Inspection Experience in relation to petrochemical operationsRELATIONSHIPS, TEAMWORK AND COLLABORATION / OPERATING ENVIRONMENTPerforming manufacturing Inspections as part of the Authorised Inspection Authority (AIA) service in order to support Maintenance and Production objectives to optimize plant performance and availability in the area of the Inspectors responsibility.Build effective networks internally and externally in order to support the plants.Support peers where required to improve the effectiveness of the Authorised Inspection AuthorityResponsible for ensuring that the manufacturer complies with the legal requirements as contemplated in the Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER) for pressure equipment and SANS 10227.The inspection environment is highly technical and specialised and the use of a variety of inspection methodologies and techniques are required to be performed on repairs on complex equipment.Responsible to manage shutdowns and manage hired Inspectors for the units responsible.FUNCTIONAL COMPETETNCIESKnowledge of advanced and standard non-destructive testing techniques.
