We are seeking unique people who believe in fostering a diverse and inclusive and safe environment.We're on the lookout for a Senior Lab Technician to manage, control and calibrate Mill Laboratory instrumentation and equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of analytical results. Perform non-routine analysis including trouble shooting in pulp and chemical plants. To serve as a control for analyses performed in satellite laboratories as well as troubleshooting and problem solving in the plantAs a Senior Lab Technician, your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintains, services and calibrates analytical instruments as per ISO requirements
  • Ensure continued reliability of analysts and accuracy of test methods and results through inter Laboratory testing with Sappi Technology Centre and SABS and initiate corrective action if required.
  • Investigates/develops calibration and analytical test Methods.
  • Trains and mentors staff and issues competencies.
  • Responsibility for cost control in some relevant fields
  • Issues PPE and tea rations to staff and maintains records.
  • Communicates with plants regarding Testing and Quality issues by attending relevant meetings
  • Performs standby duties which include callouts
  • Plan, Administer and perform non-routine sample analysis and project work in the laboratory using ICP, Ion chromatography, Flame photometry and UV / Visible spectrophotometry amongst other instruments.
  • Performs gas tests to authorize clearances for confined space entry & hot work permits
  • Responsible for the safety induction of new employees in Main Laboratory
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • National Diploma in relevant Chemistry field
  • 3 years' experience in an industrial laboratory
