Job Description


CORE PURPOSE OF JOBTo create, design, develop facilitate and administer the learning and teaching process for students in modules presented by Nelson Mandela University at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. To participate in and contribute towards research and innovation; tocontribute to community, professional and discipline related engagement; and to be involved in the core functions of the University.To lecture subjects at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in the Department of Architectural Technology and Interior Design in the School of Architecture and potentially across departments in the school, faculty or institution (depending on the operational needs).Fostering the acquisition of knowledge and skills by individuals, enabling them to function effectively within the architecture profession and as productive members of society.Key responsibilities include participating in and contributing to research and innovation, supervising postgraduate students, and engaging in community, discipline, and professional activities. The role also involves active participation in the core functions of the University, ensuring alignment with its academic and professional standards.KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Facilitate teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Contribute to the creation of knowledge by virtue of postgraduate studies, research and innovation, publications and postgraduate supervision.
  • Perform academic administration.
  • Participate in projects targeted at community service and engagement.
  • Incorporate trends regarding learning and teaching to ensure a student-centred learning experience.
  • Maintain relevant and up to date learning and teaching material by integrating latest IT/technology trends.
  • Ensure that the modules comply with all quality requirements.
CORE COMPETENCIES
  • Possess sound knowledge of the theory and application of Architectural Technology.
  • Possess sound knowledge of the theory and application of digital platforms, building information systems and architectural production tools.
  • Possess sound architectural design knowledge.
  • Ability to facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Architectural Technology and Design.
  • Ability to actively engage in and supervise post graduate research.
  • Ability to synthesize information to design learning experiences.
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of audiences through various media.
  • Ability to work well with other members of a department as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
REQUIREMENTS
  • A doctorate degree in Architecture or related discipline with at least four (4) years of relevant academic experience in which competency has been gained. Experience in various Software Development environments including in the .Net environment.
OR
  • A Masters degree with professional registration and at least five (5) years extensive relevant experience.
  • Evidence of a research portfolio which must include accredited research output (papers published in accredited journals and subject-specific conference proceedings).
  • Track record of successfully completed postgraduate student supervision.
  • Sound knowledge in architectural technology and BIM will be an advantage
