Duties and responsibilities:
Provide statistical consultation (from planning to reporting, including performing statistical analysis) for student and staff research projects in the faculty.
Identify and utilise opportunities for more advanced statistical analyses.
Supervise postgraduate students in Biostatistics.
Conduct and disseminate research in conference presentations and accredited journal publications.
Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in statistics and research methodology.
Participate in departmental activities and serve on university committees as required.
Contribute to strategic planning of statistical teaching and consultation in the faculty.
Inherent requirements:
PhD on NQF Level 10 in Biostatistics or equivalent degree with emphasis on Statistics.
At least three (3) years of consultation experience in a research environment.
At least three (3) years of statistical programming experience.
Experience in SAS or R Programming.
Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience.
Proven experience in the presentation of papers/posters at national scholarly conferences.
Proven experience in supervision of graduated masters degree students.
Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
An NRF rating or demonstrated potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
A proven research record of relevant publication/s in peer reviewed national and international accredited scientific journals.
Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher-education levels.
Recommendations:
Research experience in a health environment.
Exposure to research ethics.
Knowledge of an additional official South African language.
