Job Description


The primary role of this position is to provide teaching, research, engagement, and leadership in the Cape Town Hotel School (CTHS).Job Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceSENIOR LECTURER REQUIREMENTS

  • A PhD in Hospitality or any hospitality related qualification.
  • At least five (5) years' relevant teaching experience in the Higher Education Sector.
RECOMMENDED
  • An underpinning qualification in Hospitality or any hospitality related qualification
  • A track record of research output in accredited journals.
  • A track record in in post graduate supervision with successful postgraduate students.
  • Evidence of appropriate academic and research leadership
  • Knowledge and experience of hybrid models of teaching and learning (F2F and online learning)
LECTURER REQUIREMENTS
  • A Masters' degree in Hospitality or any hospitality related qualification
  • At least three (3) years' relevant teaching experience in the Higher Education Sector.
RECOMMENDED
  • Progress towards or intention to undertake a PhD AND an underpinning qualification in Hospitality or any hospitality related qualification.
  • Research and supervision experience.
  • A track record of research output in accredited journals.
  • Knowledge and experience of hybrid models of teaching and learning (F2F and online learning)
RECOMMENDED:
  • At least one year's experience in the hospitality industry.
  • A sound knowledge of the theory and application of the hospitality discipline.
  • An appreciation of modern theories of teaching and learning in Higher Education
  • Use of blended learning
Key Performance Areas / Principal AccountabilitiesLearning and Teaching:
  • Provision of theoretically informed and pedagogically sound teaching of Hospitality.
  • Lecture at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in any Hospitality related subject as allocated by the line manager
  • Participate and contribute to curriculum development, academic development initiatives, courseware development and assessment
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department
  • Participate in Programme Review
2.Research:
  • Supervise postgraduate and undergraduate student research projects
  • Maximize research opportunities for the Department and the Faculty
  • Research and the production of accredited research outputs.
  • Conference attendance and presentation
3.Community Engagement
  • Engagement, through which knowledge and skills are used to benefit the discipline/ profession and the community.
  • Contribute to community initiatives by integrating community interventions into the curriculum
  • Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies on co-operative education, new techniques technologies and research projects
4.Leadership and Academic Administration
  • Provides leadership at the module level
  • Provide appropriate academic and administrative leadership in the Department
  • Contribute towards development of
CompetenciesA sound knowledge of the theory and application of the discipline.
Good interpersonal skills including communication skills.
An appreciation of modern theories of teaching and learning in Higher Education and some skills as a tutor or mentor
