In considering candidates for appointment into the advertised posts, preference will be accorded to persons from a designated group in accordance with the approved Nelson Mandela University Employment Equity Plan.CORE PURPOSE OF JOBThe core purpose of this academic post is to contribute to the academic project in the Faculty of Law through the facilitation of learning and teaching (primarily in the Department of Private Law), to do research, contribute to the academic and community engagement and to be involved in the core functions of the faculty and the department.KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Facilitate effective teaching and learning at undergraduate level, specifically in Private Law modules, including Law of Persons, Family Law, Child Law.
  • Assume responsibility for course materials, lectures, tutorials and assessment of law modules, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Contribute to programme management and curriculum development.
  • Successful research supervision of under-graduate and postgraduate students.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the research strategy for the Department of Private Law.
  • Be able to perform independent research and publish in peer reviewed journals.
  • Perform administrative duties and other functions as assigned by the Department or Faculty.
  • Contribute to the achievement of the Faculty of Laws strategic plan.
CORE COMPETENCIES
  • A sound knowledge in the theory and application of Private Law, specifically Law of Persons, Family Law and Child Law.
  • Experience in facilitating learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Ability to design course material.
  • Ability to contribute to the creation of knowledge through research and publications.
  • Strong communication, administrative and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in research supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Involvement in relevant engagement activities or other scholarly outputs.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with internal and external stakeholders.
REQUIREMENTS
  • An LLD or PHD in a sub-discipline in Private Law or the equivalent
  • 1-5 years experience in a teaching, learning, supervision and research environment
  • Proven record of accepted peer-reviewed publications
  • Proven record of postgraduate supervision
