SUMMARY:
Senior Legal AdvisorPOSITION INFO:Our client, a leading retailer in South Africa, is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Advisor to join their dynamic Corporate Legal team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping the legal landscape of a major retail powerhouse with operations in South Africa and the UK.The successful candidate will provide strategic legal advice, draft and review commercial agreements, and ensure compliance with critical legislation affecting the business. • Legal Advisory & Compliance: Provide expert legal guidance on commercial legal matters, regulatory compliance, and legislative changes that impact the business.
• Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements to safeguard the company''s interests.
• Regulatory & Legislative Insight: Proactively track and analyze new legislative enactments, amendments, and legal developments, ensuring the business remains compliant and well-informed.
• Litigation & Dispute Resolution: Assess legal risks, oversee dispute resolution, and manage litigation proceedings in collaboration with external legal counsel.
• Mergers & Acquisitions: Provide legal support in M&A transactions, including due diligence investigations.
• Intellectual Property Management: Oversee trademarks, copyright, and design protection matters.
• Restraint of Trade Enforcement: Advise on and enforce contractual obligations related to restraint of trade clauses.

• Education: LLB qualification (admitted attorney)
• Experience: 10+ years of post-articles experience in corporate commercial law
• Proven track record in negotiating and drafting commercial contracts
• Strong knowledge of NCA, CPA, POPIA, FICA, and company/consumer legislation
• Experience with tax law is an advantage
• Management: Prior managerial experience is preferable
