Senior Manager: Consumer Credit Policy
Job Purpose
To review credit assessments and manage risk across lending products, providing oversight, and optimising the credit portfolio quality for Nedbank.
This role is crucial for ensuring that the bank's credit policies are effective, compliant, and aligned with both internal and external standards. It also involves significant leadership and stakeholder management to drive the organisation's credit risk strategy.
Job Responsibilities
Monitoring and Alignment:
Perform monitoring exercises to ensure business alignment with agreed risk appetite measures.
Ensure compliance with agreed corrective actions through continuous monitoring.
Align credit policy with regulatory changes and best practices by scanning the environment and making recommendations.
Reporting and Consensus Building:
Prepare and present reports to various forums to highlight pertinent credit risk issues and gain consensus.
Provide independent opinions to stakeholders to inform prudent risk management.
Risk Management:
Establish emerging risks by studying the external environment, including competitors and the macro economy.
Address immediate and emerging risks through ad hoc monitoring exercises.
Challenge recommendations and policy changes to ensure thorough understanding of the risks involved.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Identify, establish, and maintain relationships with stakeholders to ensure buy-in for monitoring activities and recommendations.
Represent Credit Risk in Risk Committees and Forums, ensuring ethical and fair treatment of customers.
Resource Management:
Manage budgets by controlling expenditure.
Deliver on the credit risk monitoring plan by managing resources and activities.
Ensure clear direction of activities by establishing and following an annual visitation program for all regions.
Development:
Stay abreast in the field of expertise and build capability through identifying training and development needs.
Contribute to team effectiveness by following the recruitment process and maintaining a high-performing team.
Operational Excellence:
Achieve operational excellence by supporting business optimization improvements through team engagement.
Encourage the team to generate innovative ideas and share knowledge.
Minimum Experience Level
7 - 10 Years' Credit Assessment and decisioning experience within Consumer Credit.
3 Years' Financial Statement Analysis or Balance Sheet Analysis experience would be an advantage.
Extensive understanding of legalities associated with lending and collateral.
2-3 years Credit systems & processes experience
People Specification
NQF Level 7 or Higher in a Financial or Banking related field essential
CIMA, Credit management degree or equivalent will be advantageous
