Senior Manager: Engineering - Cape TownFull job descriptionOil, Gas & Power Senior Manager: EngineeringJob PurposeTo lead, manage, continuously improve and be responsible for the engineering function, ensuring the quality, quantity and milestone outputs meets all requirements as set by the project and industry best practices.Key Performance Areas:Lead and manage engineering teams to deliver high-quality products on time and within budgetDesign and develop engineering policies and systems that are aligned with the divisions functional strategySet up and maintain engineering policies and strategies, engineering best practices, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and change management (CM) processesAccountable for the engineering department budget - planning, forecasting and actual reportingManage resource allocation and capacity planning for engineering projectsManage and co-ordinate the work within the design department as per the standard operating procedures and project execution plansRegular feedback and reporting of engineering status and progress on projects under executionRegular feedback and recommendations for continuous improvement initiativesEnsure compliance to the Lesedi Quality Management SystemDrive innovation and continuous improvement in engineering processes and methodologiesEnsure implementation and continuous performance monitoring of functional strategy plans and initiativesCollaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution and deliveryDevelop, implement, execute and monitor engineer-in-training (EIT) programsPerformance manage the engineering department, ensure up to date and timeous performance management goals of all team membersImplement mentor program and ensure personal development plans are updated and reviewed regularlyQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or related field (Master's degree preferred) B.Eng or B.ScProfessional Engineering (Pr.Eng) designation or equivalent certificationMasters degree or postgraduate diploma in project management, leadership and/or management will be advantageousExperience:+20 years of progressive engineering experience and project execution environment+10 years experience in engineering design, of which at least 5 years will ideally have been in the petrochemical and/or power generation industry.+5 years in a senior leadership role managing multi-disciplinary engineering teamsProven track record of successful project deliveries in a fast-paced environmentKnowledge:Technical:Understanding of engineering principles relevant to petrochemical facilities, power generation, utility systems, plant design methodology and system integrationKnowledge of the multi-disciplinary engineering deliverables applicable to the entire project life cycle, from concept to project executionExtensive experience in management of engineering activities within large-scale EPCm, EPC and Lump Sum Turnkey projectsCapability to develop and execute project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., PMI/PMP, Agile)Expertise in identifying and mitigating risks associated with engineering processes and projectsFinancial:Experience in cost control measures and optimizing project expenditures without compromising quality or safetyAbility to manage project budgets, cost estimates, and financial forecastingRegulatory and Industry Norms & Standards:Knowledge and proficiency in interpreting and applying of regulatory and industry norms and standards, e.g. OSH act, ISO 13623:2017, ISO 20074:2019, API Standards (API STD), API Recommended Practices (API RP), ASME etc.Knowledge of safety standards and normsQuality Assurance and Control:Knowledge of quality assurance processes and continuous improvement initiatives.Knowledge and proficiency in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that are in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.Knowledge and proficiency in Change Management (CM) for controlling modifications to engineering designs, systems, and processes.Operational, ExcellenceKnowledge of industry trends, technologies, and best practices.Knowledge of manpower planning, utilization, monitoring and accountabilityProficiency in developing and implementing functional strategy plans that are aligned with the business strategic goalsKnowledge to streamline processes, standardize processes, use of metrics to measure team performance and innovate new ways of workBehavioral:Team Leadership:Able to motivate, lead and develop othersAble to be a driver of team spiritAble to delegateAble to work as part of a teamOrganisation and planning:Able to prioritiseTenacious and a completerAble to use initiativeCommunication:Excellent verbal and written skillCan listen and be attentive to incoming communicationAble to share experiences with colleaguesAble to create networks internally and externallyAble to manage conflict and discipline in the functionHigh degree of EQ -
