Job PurposeThe Manager Applications is responsible for the efficient and effective functioning of all IT Systems and Applications world-wide. The role is responsible for managing overall IT day to day system operations to improve business value from system utilisation, vendor and service level management, outsourced application management services, vendor and system costs, system risk and health, system enhancements and development, performance and end user satisfaction.The scope of the system services includes all systems supporting commercial business functions, flight operations, digital applications and ERP systems. This is a leadership role that entails strategy, customers, services, staff, vendors, service levels and budget management.Principal Accountabilities

  • Contribute to the design of the Information Technology Division Strategy and ensure strategies are implemented and integrated within areas of responsibility
  • Lead the development and implementation of the IT departments strategy for systems and applications
  • Drive the profitability of the department
  • Ensure the management and control of the departments budget
  • Ensure vendor optimisation, value optimisation and cost efficiency within area of control
  • Establishing appropriate and effective service delivery models
  • Identify information technology initiatives in alignment with business requirements and strategic objectives and plan budget accordingly
  • Ensure the efficient and effective management of the department and associated functions
  • Optimise systems to enhance internal and external customer expectations
  • Ensure all processes implemented to deliver customer value
  • Drive customer centricity within all areas of control
  • Establish and manage effective internal and external stakeholder relationships through appropriate relationship building and networking
  • Ensure that effective Governance and Risk Management policies, processes and systems are in place for the department
  • Ensure regular and timeous reporting of information to key stakeholders
  • Lead and drive continuous optimisation programmes and initiatives for the department
  • Ensure that appropriate structures, infrastructure, resources and processes are in place to enable the operational execution of the strategy and plan
  • Negotiate service level agreements with IT service suppliers
  • Oversee allocation of scarce resources across IT disciplines
  • Monitor and mitigate all business risk activities (including business continuity and operational risk management) taking place in the operational environment (both within the technological environment and other operational divisions, as appropriate) in line with industry regulations and legislation
  • Ensure that required systems for support of organisational activities are implemented and aligned
  • Ensure that systems used are aligned to the Business Units overall requirements
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field at NQF level 7 is essential
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification will be an advantage
  • At least 7 - 10 years experience in IT Systems and Applications Management of which at least 5 years is at senior management level
  • ITIL Certification would be an advantage
  • Airline applications management experience is preferable
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in managing large, multi-disciplinary teams
  • Minimum of 5 years Vendor Management and Service Level Management experience
