Job Summary Our client in the Engineering sector is looking for a Senior Materials Technician to join their team for a project in the Western Cape.Requirements:

• National Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
• Must be registered with ECSA as a Pr Tech/ Pr Tech Eng.
• Minimum of 3 years experience post registration with ECSA.
• Extensive knowledge of South African material standards, including SANS (South African National Standards), and relevant testing methodologies.
• Proficiency in conducting laboratory and field testing of construction materials, including asphalt, concrete, and soils.
• Experience with the operation of laboratory equipment and testing machinery.
• Must have been part of a major roads projects.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise and manage materials testing activities on-site, including the testing of soils, aggregates, asphalt, concrete, and other construction materials.
• Review and interpret material specifications and ensure that materials used on the project meet quality standards.
• Lead a team of materials technicians, providing training, guidance, and technical support as needed.
• Perform field and laboratory testing, such as compaction, gradation, and strength tests, and ensure accurate recording of test results.
• Ensure that materials are sourced from approved suppliers and comply with project requirements.
• Prepare and review reports on material performance, including recommendations for improvements or adjustments.
• Liaise with the project management team, contractors, and engineers to address any materials-related issues.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental, and quality standards during materials testing and handling.
• Maintain proper documentation of testing processes and results, ensuring traceability and regulatory compliance.
• Assist with the procurement of materials, including reviewing material specifications and sourcing cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.
