Job Description

Ensures provision of a high quality consultative medical service within the context of comprehensive
Primary Health Care, the IDP, and the National Health Plan, in the Municipality.
Key Responsibility Areas

• Undertakes overall planning, together with the Medical Support Manager, for the provision

of skilled clinical support at all Primary Health Care Clinics.

• Works together with the Manager and other members of Clinical Support in planning for the

delivery of comprehensive PHC.

• Provides input in the provision of Primary Health Care training.
• Undertakes relevant administration functions.
• Liaises with all relevant stakeholders in connection with the implementation of PHC services.
• Leads and organises research conducted through the Health Department in eThekwini

Municipality.

• Plans, organises and directs adequate control measures in respect of staff.
• Contributes to the provision of a high-quality clinical service.
• Informs the process of budgetary planning and estimates.
• Attends relevant workshops, seminars and continued medical education programmes.

Essential Requirements

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) (NQF Level 8) or equivalent.
• Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical

Practitioner.

• Valid motor vehicle driving license
• 6 years relevant experience
• Computer Literacy

Preferred Requirements

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) (NQF Level 8) or equivalent.
• Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical

Practitioner.

• Dispensing certificate.
• 7 years relevant experience working at Primary Care level.
• Experience in Paediatrics, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Mental Health and Adult Medicine
