Senior Professional Officer Data Science



Requirements



A relevant 3 year tertiary qualification, preferably a

relevant Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics,



Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, or



Engineering, including any field with strong quantitative



elements



At least 5 years' relevant experience Proficiency in the following tools: Scripting languages (e.g. R and Python) and their ecosystems

of libraries and packages



Machine learning and deep learning frameworks

(e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras).



Data visualisation tools (e.g. Matplotlib, ggplot2, and other) Code repository, collaboration and version control tools

(e.g. GitHub, GitLab)



Familiarity with technologies like Docker for containerisation,

Airflow for data pipelines, querying tools like Trino and MinIO



& S3 for storage is valued.



Key Performance Areas



Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business

needs and translate them into analytic questions, designing



appropriate approaches and solutions using data science



methods.



Gather, clean, and transform large and complex datasets

from various sources. Implement data quality checks and



ensure data integrity.



Conduct in-depth data exploration to identify patterns, trends,

and anomalies.



Drive data-driven decision-making and continuous

improvement through rigorous experimentation.



Develop, train, deploy and evaluate statistical, machine

learning and deep learning models using appropriate



algorithms and techniques.



Clearly and effectively communicate technical findings and

insights to both technical and non-technical audiences through



presentations, reports, and visualisations
