Job Description


As a Senior Project Manager within Pele's Project Management Office, you will be required to successfully deliver, in line with the Pele Project Management Methodology, all projects allocated to you which may typically be large, complex projects.You may be required from time to time to support project managers by facilitating collaborative sessions for project team members to co-create key project management deliverables including Business Cases, Business Requirements, Project Scope, Project Management Plans and Schedules, and/or Project Close-out reports.Additionally, you will be a driving force in establishing and governing best-in-class project management practices across our diverse portfolio of renewable energy projects (solar, wind, BESS, etc.), community initiatives, and internal company projects. This is a strategic role focused on developing, implementing, and continuously improving Pele's project management methodology, ensuring its effective application across all business units. You will act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance, mentorship, and oversight to project managers embedded within operational teams, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, effectively, and in alignment with Pele's mission to power a sustainable future. Your expertise will be critical in fostering a culture of project excellence and maximizing the success of Pele's projects.RequirementsDeliver large, complex projects allocated to you in line with the established Pele Project Management Methodology:

  • Bring together the project team in consultation with the relevant line managers.
  • Prepare and ensure the sign-off of business case.
  • Develop, present and obtain sign-off of the business benefits for the project to ensure that the project is feasible and viable.
  • Facilitate the budgeting process of the project and its sub-projects, and prepares the budgets for sign off.
  • Facilitate or participate in all project scoping and planning workshops.
  • Sign-off acceptance of the Project Work Specifications (at all levels of the project), as well as the Project Plan and Project Budget.
  • Monitor, track and control the overall project in terms of the recognised disciplines of project management (time, cost, scope, risk, quality, human resources, procurement, legal, integration management).
  • Deliver and ensure completion of the project deliverables within the agreed times, cost and quality, according to the baseline.
  • Ensure adherence to the project management methodology standards implemented within the organisation, which is maintained by the Project Management Office.
  • Manage, co-ordinate and support the all sub-project managers, ensuring the delivery of sub-project deliverables according to the overall project requirements and objectives.
  • Conduct the necessary team building and training with the project team.
  • Assume full responsibility for the resolution of issues, mitigation of project risks and expedient management of scope change requests.
  • Ensure timely completion and submission of project progress reports, and project dashboards.
  • Maintain the project plans with accurate and updated to date progress information.
  • Convene regular project progress meetings, ensuring follow-up and resolution of actions.
  • Communicate regularly with all the stakeholders.
  • Ensure and manage the effective closure of the project
Pele Project Management Methodology Leadership:
  • Architect, champion, and continuously refine Pele's Project Management Methodology, tailored to the unique demands of renewable energy projects and aligned with industry best practices (e.g., PMI, Agile).
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive suite of project management templates, tools, and guidelines, specifically designed for Pele's projects and operational context.
  • Establish and govern the project lifecycle phases, ensuring a consistent and rigorous approach to project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure across all Pele projects.
  • Ensure the methodology effectively addresses the complexities of renewable energy, IT, Business and community development projects.
Governance & Oversight of Project Management Practices across Pele:
  • Implement and continuously improve Peles project governance framework to ensure consistent application of the PMO methodology and adherence to project management standards across all business units.
  • Conduct regular governance reviews and audits of project management practices across Pele's project portfolio, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring compliance with established standards.
  • Monitor key project performance indicators (KPIs) and provide portfolio-level insights to senior management on project health and methodology effectiveness across Pele's initiatives.
  • Proactively identify and address deviations from the PMO methodology and governance framework, working collaboratively with project managers and business units to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Guidance, Mentorship, and Support for Pele Project Managers:
  • Act as the subject matter expert and go-to resource for project management methodology and governance for all project managers within Pele's operational business units.
  • Provide expert guidance, coaching, and mentoring to project managers on the practical application of the PMO methodology, tools, and techniques within their business units.
  • Develop and deliver targeted training programs and workshops on project management best practices and the PMO methodology, specifically tailored to the needs of Pele's project teams.
  • Foster a collaborative community of practice among Pele project managers, facilitating knowledge sharing, best practice exchange, and continuous learning.
Contribution to Pele's Strategic Objectives:
  • Align the PMO methodology and governance framework with Pele's strategic objectives and growth plans.
  • Contribute to the development of portfolio-level reporting and analysis, providing strategic insights on project performance trends and methodology effectiveness to inform executive decision-making.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the PMO and across Pele's project management practices to enhance project success rates and contribute to Pele's leadership in the renewable energy sector.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelors degree in business science, Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 7-10 years of experience in project management, with a significant portion focused on Programme Office functions, methodology development, governance, and ideally within the renewable energy sector or related infrastructure industries.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing enterprise-wide project management methodologies and governance frameworks within organizations operating complex project portfolios.
  • Deep understanding of the unique project management challenges and best practices.
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching project managers across diverse business units within a matrix organization.
  • Expert Project Management Methodology & Governance Expertise: In-depth and current knowledge of leading project management methodologies (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, Agile, hybrid approaches), Programme Office best practices, and robust governance frameworks.
  • Methodology Development & Implementation: Proven ability to design, document, and implement practical and effective project management methodologies and standards specifically tailored for renewable energy projects.
  • Governance & Compliance Leadership: Strong understanding of project governance principles and practices and demonstrated ability to establish and enforce governance frameworks to ensure consistent project management standards across a complex organization like Pele.
  • Group Facilitation: Ability to lead large groups to co-create key project deliverables.
  • Training and Mentoring,: Exceptional training, coaching, and mentoring skills to effectively guide and develop project managers in other business units, with the ability to deliver training relevant to renewable energy project management nuances.
  • Stakeholder Management & Communication: Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively engage and influence diverse stakeholders at all levels, including senior executives, operational business unit leaders, and project managers.
  • Analytical & Strategic Thinking (Portfolio Governance): Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills to assess methodology effectiveness, identify portfolio-level trends, and develop data-driven recommendations for governance improvements and strategic project portfolio management.
  • Technical Acumen (Renewable Energy): Solid understanding of renewable energy technologies (solar, wind, etc.), project development processes in the renewable sector, and the unique challenges and opportunities of the renewable energy market.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, SharePoint), governance and reporting tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certifications (Highly Preferred): Project Management Professional (PMP), PRINCE2 Practitioner, or equivalent certification, and certifications or extensive experience in Programme Management (PgMP), Portfolio Management (PfMP), or PMO/Governance related frameworks.
