Job Summary

Projects and Engineering Secunda, Mpumalanga, South Africa (12-month fixed term contract)

Recruiting a Senior Project Manager for a large project/manager of a portfolio of projects. The role manages the execution of capital projects through an EC, whilst ensuring the delivery of project objectives in accordance with the selected technical solutions within the commitments made to the approval authorities, integration of the project, engineering, and business tracks, and ensuring adherence to the construction regulations and the OHS Act.

Outputs:

Strategy and Policy

  • Interpret business and operations hubs requirements into a defined project portfolio
  • Develop strategic execution plan for assigned portfolio that prioritizes necessary projects and defines, requests, and allocates resources
  • Set Portfolio Execution Strategies
  • Set the project mandate in terms of costs and schedules
  • Support development and execution of overarching EPC contracting strategies
  • Support development and execution of overarching project preparation/execution strategy
  • Set portfolio goals aligned with capacity and needs
Planning and People
  • Assign resources in line with the portfolio
  • First Line supervision of assigned project staff, development, mentoring of direct reports
  • Ensure competencies imparted to community (capacity building) resulting in independence, self-reliance, and sustainable development
Performance management
  • Set, monitor, manage and escalate deliverables and milestones from direct reports ensuring alignment with project plan and quality standards
  • Set overall KPIs for program/portfolio
  • Monitor and supervise adherence to budget, schedule, quality, scope, and safety requirements of projects within portfolio
  • Identify and implement improvement practices
  • Give guidance on selected projects
  • Proactively evaluate portfolio, key issues, risks, and performance criteria
Governance, Risk, and Assurance Management
  • Pre-approve appropriate deliverables for relevant committees
  • Oversee compliance with laws and regulations
  • Take lead on identification of critical risks and mitigation strategies in assigned portfolio
  • Take responsibility to meet HSE objectives and targets
External relations and Reporting
  • Support Project Managers in interaction with internal and external stakeholders ensuring needs and intent from Business/Operations and advice/recommendations from Engineering
  • Monitor Earned Value Matrixes on Projects
  • Support EPC Contractor Management and contract negotiations.
  • Report on portfolio/project performance
Leadership Oversight
  • Own the company new operating model and EC construct.
  • Act as a custodian for all project management processes and practices associated with Capital Project Development (i.e. Framing, Alignment, Team Development, Gate Reviews and Lessons Learnt).
  • Act as a Subject matter expert (SME), providing group wide discipline specific support (i.e. gate reviews, peer reviews, deep dives with project teams, as required).
  • Act as a custodian of functional specific specifications, standard and management systems.
People Management
  • Oversee the accreditation of project professionals on a continuous basis.
  • Provide discipline input into training and the development of relevant Project Management training material to up skill Subject Matter Experts.
  • Provide input into criteria and participate in recruitment, promotion, performance management and talent management of project personnel, while validating competencies
  • Provide functional specific home for project professionals and associated talent management, career path and personal development of functional resources.
  • Ensure professional working relationships with all relevant stakeholders on the project execution value chain
  • Identify and deliver on business partner requirements, e.g. cash flows, reporting, capital budget inputs, etc.
  • Manage collaborations with project team to ensure project success.
  • Ensure open, honest relationships with business partners to build and maintain trust
Qualifications:
  • Post Graduate Honour's degree - Engineering
  • Post Graduate Master's Degree (Advantage)
