Job Description

• Initiates and manages/contributes towards research projects on postharvest management, agro-processing and product development.
• Conducts specific research with clear focus on developing geoprocessing and product development including nutraceuticals.
• Actively sources and secures new R&D opportunities related to product development.
• Compiles and contributes to progress reports (internal and external).
• Captures, analyses and interprets data.
• Provides leadership, supervision and mentoring of researchers, postgraduate students, research technicians and assistants.
• Human resources management to ensure efficient deployment and utilization, setting objective assessment and training.
• Disseminates technology through peer reviewed scientific articles, popular publications, manual production, radio and TV talks, etc.
• Initiates and collaborates with national and international organization.
• Trains postgraduate students and technical personnel in the use of specialized equipment/instruments and associated software.
• Compliance with human resource policies and procedures.
• Compliance with occupational health and safety policies and procedures.

• Relevant PhD or DSc in Food Science/Biochemistry, or closely related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years (post PhD) relevant experience in product development R&D.
• Minimum of 8 relevant peer reviewed publications.
• Demonstrable experience in agroprocessing and product development.
• Demonstrable experience in project management, postgraduate student supervision or mentoring.
• Agricultural research knowledge and skills.
• Demonstrable experience in external income generation and/or intellectual property generation and management is an added advantage.
• Demonstrable record of national recognition.
