Wits RHI is looking for a dynamic and motivated individual with a passion for women's health to lead a new study, investigating single-dose HPV vaccination strategies for women living with HIV in southern and eastern Africa
Main purpose of the job:
To lead and implement research projects, analyze research data, and publish scientific articles
Location:
22 Esselen Street, Hillbrow - Johannesburg
Key performance areas:
Oversee the management and implementation of the study following the protocol
Provide technical assistance (tool development and training) in HPV vaccination strategies to key stakeholders
Provide leadership in the area of sexual and reproductive health and other STIs
Publish scientific articles
Contribute to new grant development
Supervise postgraduate students
Required minimum education and training:
PhD in appropriate discipline and/or MBBCH with a public health higher Degree
Required minimum work experience:
Minimum 5-8 years of research experience, with a particular focus on HIV or STI programs/trials
Management of research program/clinical trials with a research record of an ongoing output evidenced by at least eight published refereed papers
Membership of Professional/School/Faculty/Department Committees and/or taking leadership roles in the Public Health domain within the Public or NGO sectors
Self-motivated, able to work independently and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
Experience with local SA regulatory guidelines
Professional body registration:
HPCSA Professional body registration or as applicable
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:
Experience in public health will be an advantage
Certification in good clinical practice
Experience working in a low or middle-income country
Experience in implementing independent projects
Familiarity with data analysis software
Ordered, systematic, and analytical in approach to research
Tactful, respectful and non-judgmental
Good administrative skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
Demands of the job:
National and international travel required from time to time
May be required to work long hours overtime/weekends
Working in a limited resources environment
Work in a highly pressurized environment
Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
Take ownership of driving your career development by attending
training and development sessions and relevant forums/meetings
Maintain and update knowledge of developments in the field and expertise
