Job Description


CORE PURPOSE OF JOBThe timeous processing of all salary related instructions onto the payroll system, to ensure that staff are
remunerated correctly in accordance with relevant policies and legislative requirements. To support by
providing input and advice to the Deputy Director - Payroll regarding process improvements and problem
solving.KEY PERFORMANCE AREASTimeous verification and processing of salary instructions in accordance with relevant policies and
legislative requirements:
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 To process Permanent appointments in line with University Policy and Conditions of Service.
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 To process the termination of service for employees.
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 To perform the retrospective correction of salaries (Rollbacks) ensuring the correct reporting on the ERP
system in line with policy and Conditions of Service
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 To ensure the electronic short-term contract appointments are generated correctly onto the Payroll System
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 To Generate monthly reports of the entire payroll and verify the accuracy of the data.
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 Reconciliations of the relevant reports and payroll control accounts. In preparation for the timeous payment
to third parties, i.e. medical aid funds, pension/ provident funds etc.
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 All queries need to be addressed in terms of the Payroll Departments Service Level Agreement and
standards set.
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 Proper Categorizing and storing of documents in line with current legislative requirements.
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 Continuous review of and update of operational procedure documents
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 Review and update of Payroll procedures.
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 To provide strategic input during problem solving processes and assist in the development of new systems
and procedures
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 Assistance and support to the Deputy Director, in terms of the distribution of workload to the rest of the
team and the management of the team during his absenceCORE COMPETENCIESAbility to prioritize and remain focused under pressurexc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 Adherence to strict deadlines
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 Attention to detail (Accuracy)

xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 High level computer skills in Payroll ERP system
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 Possess advanced level skills and practical experience in MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint;
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 Good communicational skills at all levels of the organisation
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 Has good inter-personal and conflict management skills;
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 Management of information and saving and retrieval skills;
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 In-depth Knowledge of ITS Payroll and Financial systemREQUIREMENTSIn order to be considered for appointment to this position, candidates must possess:
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 National Diploma or Degree in Payroll or Financial Accounting
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 A minimum of 5 Years experience within a Higher Education Payroll environment, of greater than 1000
employees
xc3xafxe2x80x9axc2xb7 Extensive technical knowledge and experience on the ITS Payroll system structure.Nelson Mandela University reserves the right not to make an appointment.
