Job Summary
To provide advice and support in practice formulation and associated best practice improvement tactics; enabling the provision of specialist information technology data governance expertise.
This role will oversee the day to day data and records management practices and governance frameworks within the Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB). Key focus on providing guidance and administering data governance and compliance policies to support external (e.g. regulatory) as well as internal requirements (e.g. Absa data management standards). Close collaboration with stakeholders across various business units and functions across CIB will be required, helping to establish robust management practices, ensure accountability, define data ownership and data quality standards across data assets for CIB.
Cultivating a culture of data ownership throughout the data lifecycle, from creation to consumption, is paramount. Additionally, identifying patterns, deriving insights, and leveraging data for informed decision-making is integral to the role.
Key critical accountabilities:
Data Governance:Assist in the development and implementation of CIB data and records management governance frameworks, policies, and procedures (e.g. BCBS 239, EMIR etc).
Support the establishment of data quality standards and contribute to the effective management of data assets.
Collaborate with Absa Group and CIB business units and functions to assist in defining data ownership, stewardship, and lifecycle management.
Attend, facilitate and ensure that defined data governance forums are operational and efficient.
Ensure that the control environment is reported, managed within acceptable parameters and that governance processes are operated as intended.
Risk Management:Assist in defining policy standards, enforcing policy and measuring compliance.
Identify, assess, and mitigate client data-related risks and vulnerabilities within CIB.
Conduct risk assessments and collaborate with internal audit to ensure CIB data initiatives have a defined risk mitigation plan.
Collaborate with stakeholders across CIB Business Units and Functions, Absa Group and Data Capability Centre to integrate data risk and compliance into relevant business processes.
Contribute to any enterprise-wide risk assessments to identify and mitigate operational, financial or cybersecurity risks.
Participate in monitoring risk exposure and reporting to relevant stakeholders, complying with any internal risk event standards.
Compliance:Support efforts to ensure compliance with applicable local and international industry regulations, data protection laws, and applicable standards.
Assist in compliance audits and assessments, addressing identified issues promptly.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of compliance documentation and reporting.
Reporting:Ensure clear articulation of significant issues driving the control environment and execution in line with Business Strategy.
Ensure accurate delivery of internal reporting and presentations if required for key risk committees within CIB.
Contribute to the building of a data governance and risk scorecard.
Stakeholder Management:Build and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders across the enterprise.
Build trusting relationships with internal clients to facilitate pro-active and engaging risk management.
Contribute to COO initiatives inclusive of activities that drive and inform a cohesive and collaborative culture.
Education and experience requiredEducated to degree level, ideally in a related field
5 - 8 years working on projects related to data governance, risk management, compliance, product control or information security.
Experience working as a Data Governance Lead/Manager
Preferably involved in building the Data Governance capability in an organisation
Desirable to have worked in a similar role in an Investment or Commercial Bank
