:As a Senior Engineer in this team the individual will be expected to:
Performance of Technical Due Diligence - This requires understanding what is needed for a proper technical risk assessment of a renewable project, including:
Construction contracts (turbine supply and balance of plant)
Operation and maintenance contracts
Grid Connection Agreements
Power Purchase Agreements
Assessment of Balance of Plant (civil and electrical infrastructure)
Wind technology and site suitability assessment (climatic conditions, acoustic, ground conditions, etc.)
Technical analysis of project contracts (FIDIC, GCC etc)
Assessment of project construction schedule
Review of project authorizations, licenses or land securement contracts
Evaluation of technical inputs for Project's Financial Model
NOTE: Detailed experience in one or several of the aspects listed above would be valued (e.g. electrical design, contract negotiations, regulatory aspects related to interconnection or PPAs, etc)
Project management of medium/large size projects and portfolios - coordination of a team of specialist (locally and internationally) to provide top level technical advisory and deliver high quality reports, according to the tasks detailed above for a Technical Due Diligence.
Owner's and/or Lender's Engineer (also known as Independent Engineer) during pre-construction and construction phase of the projects:
Technical Due Diligence reports for support Project Financing or M&A decisions
Construction monitoring to assess construction progress and control the quality of the work
Monthly construction meeting organization with the contractor(s)
Approval of contractual payment schedule condition precedents
Approval of take-over condition precedents and punch list issuance
Commercial support (awareness of market trends, participation in industry conferences, proposal management and winning new business in the South African market)
Technology scouting and market watch
Assistance with general group activities
Be able to mentor junior staff.
Any other appropriate duties as directed by line management.

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required. Masters or PhD preferred.
Professional registration is not a prerequisite, however would be viewed as an additional positive aspect.
Minimum of 5 years of previous TDD experience within the renewable energy industry, preferably working for a tier-A consultancy or project developer.
Understanding of enforceable norms and regulations within the renewable industry, focused on the South African and Sub-Saharan regulatory environment.
Knowledge of the general global energy market and, in particular, about other renewable energy technological trends in South Africa.
Experience in development, design, review and/or supervision of renewable projects, including technology, civil and electrical infrastructure works and/or grid interconnection. Experience in other kind of energy projects would be also valuable.
Exceptional English language skills (both in writing and speaking) required. Other languages an advantage (Xhosa, Zulu, Afrikaans, Arabic, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Mandarin or German).
Proficiency in the standard suite of modern commercial computer software.
Ability to work independently, be a self-starter, diligent, energetic, with a high standard of ethical behavior.
Structured and service-minded approach, always focusing on delivering high quality results.
Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time, domestic and international.
Ability to work under pressure and manage several ongoing projects simultaneously.
Ability to complete small projects or portions of large projects on time and within budget.
Project work often takes place in a fast-paced, international environment with tight delivery timeframes. The candidate must be willing to work with complex tasks under such deadline pressure and be comfortable in managing workflow to deliver work on time (working with their line manager and other team members to allocate work effectively).

Physical abilities necessary to perform regular functions of the job:
Occasional air travel to wind and solar farms, other offices and conferences.
Valid driver's license required and acceptable driving record meeting company requirements.
Occasional work outdoors in harsh conditions including but not limited to climbing stairs and ladders to ascend wind turbines or met masts, travelling by car up to six hours and walking on uneven terrain.
Occasional lifting of heavy objects, regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing and reaching.
