Job Description

Primary Purpose of the Job: The primary objective of the Server Engineer role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems. The Server Engineer will employ proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to identify, communicate, and resolve issues, thereby maximizing the benefit of IT system investments. Key responsibilities include maintaining production systems' availability, performance, scalability, and security. The Server Engineer will collaborate closely with various departments, vendors, and stakeholders to design and implement technology solutions that align with organizational objectives and user requirements.Areas of Responsibility:Server Management:

• Ensure server and network uptime and availability.
• Conduct routine maintenance and updates.
• KPI: Achieve server and network uptime of at least 99.95% per month.

Performance Optimization and Scalability:

• Ensure the infrastructure can scale to meet increasing demand.
• Implement load balancing, caching, and performance tuning techniques.
• KPI: Percentage improvement in system performance.

Issue Response and Resolution:

• Respond to critical server issues within the set timeframe.
• Perform effective troubleshooting and problem resolution.
• KPI: Mean time to resolution (MTTR) for infrastructure incidents, incident resolution success rate.

System Updates:

• Execute necessary server software and firmware updates.
• KPI: Complete 100% of server updates within one week of release.

Security and Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and best practices for cybersecurity.
• Implement security controls, monitor for threats, and respond to security incidents.
• KPI: Compliance rate with regulatory requirements and best practices, mean time to remediate vulnerabilities, number of exceptions, average age of open vulnerabilities.

Backup Management:

• Perform routine backups and ensure a high success rate.
• KPI: Maintain a backup success rate of at least 98% each month.

Disaster Recovery:

• Test and document disaster recovery procedures.
• KPI: Successfully conduct and document disaster recovery tests bi-annually.

Professional Development:

• Pursue relevant certifications and expand technical capabilities.
• KPI: Obtain one relevant professional certification within the first year of employment.

Vendor Management:

• Monitor and manage third-party vendor SLAs.
• KPI: Vendor SLA compliance rate, number of successful contract renewals and amendments.

Technology Implementation:

• Implement significant server technology upgrades or improvements.
• KPI: Successfully implement at least one server technology upgrade or improvement per year.

Team Collaboration:

• Participate in cross-functional projects, enhance system integration, and collaboration.
• KPI: Participate in at least one major cross-functional project per year.

Documentation:

• Document all system changes, incidents, and maintenance activities.
• KPI: Document 100% of system changes, incidents, and maintenance activities within 24 hours of completion.

Miscellaneous and General:

• Complete any assigned work-related duties and responsibilities.
• KPI: Completion rate of assigned duties and responsibilities, overall satisfaction rate in the performance of miscellaneous duties.

Working Conditions:

• Office-based with travel to regional offices.
• Extended work hours may be required to meet deliverables.
• Standby duties may be required.

Competencies and Minimum Requirements:Knowledge:

• Cloud Platforms: Extensive knowledge of AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
• Server Technologies: Proficiency with Linux/UNIX and Windows Server.
• Hardware: Knowledge of server hardware technologies.
• Virtualization Technologies: Understanding of VMware and Hyper-V.
• Networking: Proficiency in TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and network hardware.
• Storage Technologies: Familiarity with SAN, NAS, and RAID configurations.

• Databases: Understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases.

Qualification:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent experience or certifications may be accepted.
• Industry Certifications: Highly valued certifications include Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Google Professional Cloud Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CompTIA Server+, CCNA, VMware Certified Professional, ITIL, and COBIT.

Experience:

• Server Administration: 3-5 years of experience in server administration.
• Cloud Platforms: 2-3 years of experience with major cloud platforms.
• Networking: Solid experience in managing network systems.
• Security: Proven experience in managing security aspects of server infrastructure.
• Virtualization Technologies: Experience with VMware or Hyper-V.
• Database Management: Experience with database systems.
• Infrastructure Design and Management: 3-5 years of experience in designing and managing technology infrastructure.
• Participating in Infrastructure Projects: Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills.
• Vendor Interaction: Experience in managing vendor relationships.
• Managing Security and Compliance: Experience in security and compliance management.
• Technical Guidance: Ability to provide technical guidance and support to a team.

Technical Skills:

• Server Operating Systems: Proficiency in Windows Server, Linux, and UNIX.
