Job Description


Job Requirement:

  • Grade 12
  • Tertiary Education (including Diplomas, Certificates, and Degrees)
  • Minimum N2 in Tool, Jig & Die trade theory and trade tested (red seal), preferable
  • 5 years relevant setting experience

Responsibilities:
Technical:
  • Identify, report and rectify all technical areas of concern on assigned
  • production equipment (machines, moulds, etc.)
  • Have an in-depth understanding of
  • Product and its quality criteria
  • Process (material feeding and drying, injection moulding, reheat stretch blow moulding and injection blow moulding)
  • General knowledge of all equipment, detailed for assigned equipment
  • Mould installation
  • Technical principles and drawings (e.g. assemblies and spare part finding, pneumatic, hydraulic, electric)
  • Fault analysis and problem solving
  • Independently do fault analysis and problem solving in case of (teamwork as needed)
  • Product quality issues
  • mould issues
  • machine malfunction (mechanic / hydraulic / pneumatic / electric)
  • Recognize and report problems to Maintenance Manager & Production Manager on other than the assigned equipment.
  • Maintenance
  • Independently develop maintenance plans and checklists (teamwork as needed)
  • Ensure maintenance is done at required intervals according to the
  • plans
  • By yourself
  • By service suppliers as agreed by the Maintenance Manager & Production Manager.
  • Document maintenance according to the plans.
  • Spares
  • Identify spares needed for assigned equipment
  • In general
  • As a preventative measure identified during maintenance checks
Machine Setting:
  • Optimisation of the production process, setting the machine for optimal performance and cycle time.
  • Ensure that the process integrity is optimal for each run; if not, amend and record new process settings.
  • Document settings as per standard practice at the facility.
Management
  • Liaise with Maintenance Manager and Production Manager (in charge) to ensure machine availability vs. major maintenance intervals.
  • Have an overview of what needs to be done and report to Maintenance Manager and Production Manager.
  • Give completion dates and fulfill tasks required by Maintenance Manager and Production Manager.
  • Ensure sound relationships and communication with internal work-related staff (QC, Production, etc.) and external entities (Bowler Plastics Toolroom, Technical department, suppliers, etc.).
  • Strive for improvement, research, and make suggestions.
Administration
  • Log jobs performed.
  • Analyze the Defect Register together with Maintenance Manager and Production Manager to improve production results.
  • Contact external suppliers, as agreed with Maintenance Manager and Production Manager, to assist in solving problems (quotes on service, spare parts, etc.).
  • Spares
  • Have an overview of existing stock for equipment.
  • Conduct spare part analysis (i.e., keep stock vs. source at breakdown) considering the likelihood of wear/breakage vs. cost vs. delivery time.
  • Report parts needed to Maintenance Manager and Production Manager, and assist in decisions to keep stock or source at breakdown.
  • Assist Maintenance Manager and Production Manager in the ordering process (e.g., prepare documents, follow up on orders).
  • Plan for the year ahead; assist Maintenance Manager and Production Manager with work on the budget for maintenance.
Health & Safety
  • Ensure and enforce that aspects in the area of responsibility conform to health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in the area of responsibility (e.g., ensure cleanliness of assigned machines and areas).
  • Work safely and report on safety hazards or issues.
  • Report any accidents, incidents, and near misses.
Quality
  • Apply the companys quality principles and standards.
  • Maintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Food Safety System Certification (FSSC)
  • Food safety standards are site-specific, and at these sites, employees should:
  • Apply the sites food safety principles and standards.
  • Report any food safety hazards or issues to your Supervisor/Manager.
  • Comply with and maintain all GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) in relation to the Companys FSMS (Food Safety Management System).
Self-Development, Growth, and Training
  • Realistically assess own strengths and development areas and undertake actions to address weaknesses, if any, that hinder the fulfillment of your objectives.
  • Stay abreast of innovation and technical improvements for further self-development and the development of the company.
  • Keep contact with your key suppliers and discuss with them.
  • Read operator manuals of machines.
  • Read literature related to your position (e.g., on the internet, Google, etc.).
  • Promote teamwork and cooperation.
  • Practice self-management.
  • Exhibit leadership and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Maintain product and service quality.
General:
  • Perform additional tasks as required from time to time.
  • Ensure the team knows what to do and where to find information if you are not available.
