  • To ensure that Epiroc SA Pty Ltd complies with all SHEQ legal and Mine and/or customer requirements. Coordinate, assist and drive Operational requirements of the Contract, including all Epiroc SA ,Epiroc Group legal and Other Requirements.
  • In this position you will be the primary driver of Continuous Improvement initiatives in order to enhance customer satisfaction and exceed legal requirements.
Main Responsibilities
  • To lead, assist, and advise Safety, Health, Quality and Environmental (SHEQ) functions in a manner that protects the company, employees, customers and assets against losses, injuries, and accidents through the development and enforcement of safe work practices/programs.
  • Evaluate and maintain MRS compliance with Epiroc, Mining Legal and Regulatory plus Customer requirements in all areas relevant to SHEQ.
  • Perform regular TMM inspections, as required by the customer and all other Inspections.
  • To carry out a legal appointment on the customer site, as per MHSA/Minerals Act regulation, as applicable (2.17.1) Implement and maintain hazard / aspect and risk/impact awareness program / campaign.
  • Implement, assist and control internal and external audit processes for areas of responsibility, and report the performance of these audits to Contract Site Manager and/or Regional SHEQ Coordinator on a monthly basis.
  • Implement, assist and control SHEQ risk assessments and make recommendations for improvements as required to the Mine and/or MRS site Manager.
  • Ensure all SHEQ requirements are adhered to, including the issue and effective use of PPE, with the objective of achieving the Mine and/or MRS target of zero accidents, incidents and property damages.
  • Coordinate, report and control accurate record keeping relating to SHEQ statistics, and participate on incident investigations as and when required.
  • Advise, guide and support applicable management to ensure that SHEQ procedures and policies are implemented, operating effectively and that all personnel are fully engaged and trained in the processes.
  • Participate in daily / weekly / monthly SHEQ or other meetings and report any SHEQ statistics as required to Site Management and Head Office and Mine/Customer.
  • Assist with COID Act (Compensation, Occupation, Injuries and Diseases Act) implementation, reporting and compliance.
  • Primary responsible for all customer required legal compliance and related documentation updates on customer software, ie Passport 360 and Enablon, and all related functions.
  • Ensure that SHEQ Objectives and targets for Epiroc South Africa are rolled out and effectively implemented at areas of responsibilities (i.e. Mine including Customer O&T's).
  • Implement initiatives and processes to prevent injuries, ill-health and environmental pollution (i.e. Focusing on pro-active rather than re-active) to enhance a culture of SHEQ awareness and good practices (i.e. total well-being of employees).
  • Audit and verify (e.g. GAP analysis) that MRS Mine site comply with MHSA Legal and Epiroc Group requirements including the Customer's.
  • Assist with the collection and correct reporting of all SHEQ statistics / information required from the Mine site for the quarterly Sustainability Reporting in GPS.
  • Assist and advise with necessary SHEQ Training Needs for the Mine site to ensure compliance with all statutory and other requirements (i.e. Legal appointments, Driven machinery, Lifting equipment, etc.).
  • Be the primary responsible for all Safe Work Procedures rollout for All Capital Machines and all TMM (PV351, PV235,SMartROC D65 ,DML ,Peckers ,Autonomous Drilling machines, as applicable etc.)
  • Perform and always adhere to the legal duties assigned by the Mine in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act and Regulations as per the 2.17.1 MHSA appointment
  • Any other additional/ad-hoc tasks and/or responsibilities at the discretion of the MRS Site Manager and/or Regional SHEQ Coordinator, after consultation as agreed upon.
  • Will carry out any other function or duty as may be required in terms of Epiroc and Group requirements, as it may be required.
Competences, skills and experience
  • A Grade 12 qualification with relevant SHEQ experience.
  • National Diploma / Certificates (e.g. NOSA / IRCA /Nebosch ) in SHEQ /Other suitable formal National Qualifications.
  • COMSOC 1 and II and/or SAMTRAC
Experience requirements
  • Three years relevant Mining/Engineering in an mining environment.
  • Technical aptitude and technical GET background an advantage.
  • Code B drivers licence
  • ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 Implementation and internal auditing experience.
  • Auditors courses for Safety and Risk Control Management
  • Risk Assessment Techniques (SWIFT ,HAZOP and FMECA,WRAC and HIRA, etc).
  • Good understanding of the MHS Act and Operational Application of Legislation.
  • Legal Compliance Auditing experience will be advantageous.
  • ITIS/Train the Trainer
  • MS Office, Knowledge and Applications.
